I offer walking tours of coastal, scenic natural beauty. You will discover conservation land, local beaches, charming coves, islands, hidden lanes, ponds, spectacular harbor views, charming architecture and a colonial burying ground. Focus is on the scenery and coastline, but history and local folklore are inevitable in any walk around Marblehead. We will concentrate on the very oldest part of the old fishing village, and walk on lanes, paths, and sand bars that you'll only find with a local guide.
I've lived in Marblehead my entire life (60+ years!), and have been an airbnb host at my house in the woods for five years. I've been a teacher of literature and writing at the college level for many years, and am currently a chaplain in higher ed. I know the community, its history, customs, and landscape, from an insider's viewpoint. I offer walking tours that include small coves and local beaches and conservation areas as well as the historic old town with pedestrian walkways known only to locals.
Snacks can be arranged...or stop for drinks and seafood at a local waterfront restaurant.
I'll carry water for guests. The walk begins and ends close to local restaurants for beer, cocktails, seafood.
Tours will include some or all of these sights, some well-known, some familiar only to locals: Steer Swamp Conservation Area, Grace Oliver's Beach, Barnegat Cove, Brown's Island, Gashouse Beach, Gerry's Island, Doak's Lane boatyards and lobster shanties, Fort Sewall, the Barnacle (local watering hole!), Alley Steps, Knight's Lane, Redd's Pond, Old Burial Hill, Black Joe's Pond, Town Landing, Crocker Park.
