We'll meet downtown Toronto to explore 'Graffiti Alley' as well as some adjacent streets along Queen Street West. I'll go over the history of street art in general (ie: graffiti versus street art) and more specifically about street art in Toronto. I'll show some examples of artists collaborations, as well as some murals sponsored by the City of Toronto. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and take photos. We'll finish the tour at one of Toronto latest 'Must see' venue, Stack Market, located at Bathurst/Front Street. I'l show you another mural from one of the artists that I introduced earlier and you'll then have the opportunity to shop, enjoy a coffee and an artisan donut or head to the pub to try a local beer.
I have been living downtown Toronto for over 20 years and I want to share my passion for street art with my guests. I'm a mix media artist and I know some of the talented artists whose murals we will be discovering. I took a course in History of Art in University, but Street Art wasn't part of the curriculum! I'm fluent in English, French and Spanish so let me know which language you would be the most comfortable with!
Toronto Graffiti Alley is located downtown Toronto and starts at Queen Street West and Spadina Avenue. It is a very convenient location accessible by public transit (streetcar). Some of Toronto most famous local artists as well as international artists have left their mark in the area. we will cover the distance of the alley, which is about 2 km (1.25 miles), plus some adjacet streets as well.
Don't forget to bring your phone (and charger as you'll want to document this activity!), a water bottle, a hat, and a good pair of shoes!
