With an experienced local guide, you are invited to explore Niagara history, especially where key events of the War of 1812 took place; we will visit Fort George, Niagara on the Lake, Queenston Heights and the Brock monument, Beaverdams, the Decew site and part of the route of Laura Secord's courageous trek to warn the British of impending attack. I will include sites of historical and maritime interest around the Welland Canal. Our visit will feature a stop at 1 or 2 Niagara wineries or a craft brewery, and we will make a lunch stop at a recommended café/restaurant (or a picnic stop, weather permitting). Our initial meeting spot: main parking lot in the village of Jordan Station, across from cave Springs Winery/ Inn on the Twenty. You can pick up a great sandwich lunch/pastry at De La Terre bakery. La narration peut se faire entièrement en français. The tour ideally will take 3-4 hours, depending on traffic, and duration of lunch stop. For groups over 4 people, you can follow in your own car (with a small discount). Please note: although the tour is open to anyone aged 12 years and up, for winery/craft brewery visit, please remember that consumption /sampling of any alcoholic beverage is restricted to persons of legal age 19 and over.
I am a retired History teacher and wine enthusiast, completely fluent in French/English (some Italian and German as well). For over 30 years, I led/organized and guided student and adult trips focusing on History (and wine !) in Canada, the USA, France, Italy, Greece, Germany, Belgium and Russia. I work in a Niagara area winery, have guided friends on visits of War of 1812 sites, and I am well acquainted with many of the Niagara's best wineries. I am a passionate History buff, especially when it involves sites with a military connection, and love to share this interest. La visite peut être faite entièrement en français, si vous désirez.
