活動內容

We will begin with a tour of the gelato laboratory and production machines. I will explain where we source our produce and the importance of using seasonal, local, second-run fruit from the local farmers and suppliers we work with. I will identify the difference between gelato and ice cream, and why gelato is a better vehicle for flavour. After touring the facilities we will have a 16-flavour gelato tasting, to include either the stranger and more bizarre, or the more traditional flavours we typically make (your choice!). We will discuss where the inspiration comes from and the different collaborations and custom flavours that we've made over the years, including the hits and the failures, the award winners, the flavours that got us in trouble. The tour will conclude with a double scoop of your choice in a waffle cone. Try Brie-Pear-Walnut, Garlic-Fennel-Vanilla, Smoked Chocolate and Bourbon, White-Chocolate-Almond-Sesame, While Truffle-Maple-Sage, Strawberry-Thai Basil-Juniper, Blueberry-Lavender-Lemonade, Grilled Cheese, Chocolate-Bugs, Corn-on-the-Cob, Pigs Blood, Pistachio-Baklava, Hay-Honey-Caramel, Peach-Basil-Bellini, Boozy Tiramisu, Pad Thai and more.

Kaya And Maddalena

Born in Istanbul, Turkey, a city at the intersection of eastern and western culture, Kaya came to Canada in 2002 to study chemical engineering at the University of Toronto. After graduation he studied at Stratford Chef School and went on to complete internships at Micheline Star restaurants including Oud Sluis in Holland, La Grenouilliere in France, Manresa in San Francisco, and In De Wulf in Belgium. In April 2016 he won a Chopped Canada Competition with his ricotta-lemon-rosemary gelato and he opened the Death in Venice Gelato Co. here in Toronto to produce edgy and novel gelato flavours.

This tour takes place in the cafe and gelato laboratory, located in hip and trendy Dundas Street West. The cafe is a few blocks west of Trinity Bellwoods Park at Gladstone, surrounded by wine bars, cafes, galleries, boutiques and restaurants.
