New York is known as 'the city that never sleeps', but believe it or not, too many NYC locals today believe that New York is dead. I am NOT one of them! On this tour we will prove them wrong - one drink at a time! To do that, we will visit 4 unique (AND WARM) bars in the East Village that represent 4 unique eras in New York's amazing history - the birth of NYC, Prohibition, the counter-culture boom, and the instagram age of New York (2020). As we enjoy a drink in each of these bars, we'll learn the fascinating history of New York's most famous eras, share stories about the bars we are drinking in (and about people who drank there before us). We'll also stay INDOORS as much as possible so as to hide away from the winter weather. By the end, we can share our favorite chapter of New York's history, and decide together whether NYC has really died, or if it is just getting started. * And if you would like to fill your stomach before the bar crawl, why not join me on one of my sandwich experiences - "A Sandwich Feast" or "Eat the 'New York' Sandwich" - both found on Airbnb.
Hi, I'm Ben, a former lawyer turned New York Experience Host (weird, right?) with two successful experiences currently on Airbnb - "A Sandwich Feast" and "Eat the New York Sandwich" - that over 1200 guests have joined me on in the past 2+ years. But when I'm not showing my guests where to eat the best sandwiches in New York, I spend my time exploring the greatest city in the world via its bars and its food & drink history. Through my exploration I've discovered some amazing stories and 'watering holes' in the unique neighborhood of the East Village. Now it's time I share those stories over a drink with a few new mates .
Your first drink at the first bar is on us. It is a drink that has been served to New Yorkers the exact same way for 165…
We'll begin inside a WARM coffee shop inside Astor Place (Blue Stone Lane cafe), before visiting New York's oldest bar, a secret speakeasy, an award winning dive bar and East Village's most Instagramable cocktail bar.
You MUST bring ID that shows you are 21+ years old.
This experience is only for those 21 years & older. EVERYONE must bring valid ID. There is no expectation that guests have to drink at each venue, however time will be allowed for those who wish to do so. There is no dress code for the tour, but please dress appropriately for weather and walking.
