You'll be taken on a guided tour through our ranch, which has over 250 alpacas and an assortment of peacocks, donkeys, llamas, cows, horses, and the friendliest barn cat, Bailey. You'll get up close and personal with the alpacas - and whether you want to pet an alpaca, get a selfie with one, or just enjoy watching them play - you'll get a one-of-a-kind opportunity to visit with these animals! The tour will start with "alpaca basics" and lead you through to see moms with their young, where you'll learn about what makes alpacas so special (hint: they're not just cute!) and what all goes into caring for them, from their diet to their health and reproduction to what types of things we can produce with their wonderful fiber. Babies are born nearly all year long here, so there's even a chance you'll get to see the birth of a baby alpaca! All the while you'll get a taste of "the country life" on our beautiful ranch, located nearby Yosemite in the foothills of California's Sierra Nevada Mountains.
After a lifetime in the city, my wife and I moved to the country and started a ranch in 2011. Now we own/manage the largest alpaca herd in California and share our love and adventures with these animals with visitors year-around. As the chairman of the education committee of the California alpaca organization, Calpaca, I have been teaching people about alpacas and giving hands-on experiences at our ranch for many years, helping people to learn about and enjoy these amazing creatures. I hope to give each visitor a true "life in the country" experience. I do not have plans to have a co-host at this time, I intend to do all tours myself.
You'll be guided through various stops on our ranch and given the opportunity to spend time with alpacas, from young babies to fully grown fluffballs! Various stops along the way will provide learning opportunities about the animals and the ranching operation and provide you with great photo opportunities and up-close interactions.
