Ever wanted to learn about green tea? What's the difference between green tea and matcha? Ever wondered if you're making green tea the "correct" way? With our gentle and welcoming approach to green tea, we'll guide you through everything you need to know about green tea. By the end of the workshop, you'll be a tea master! You'll start the workshop with a cup of tea (as you should). We'll provide tastings of a high grade Japanese green tea and teach you the brewing techniques for this type of tea. We'll go step-by-step to show you how temperature affects flavor and how you can recreate the same cup easily at home. While you drink tea, you'll learn where tea comes from and how it is made from farm to cup. Then, you'll get to brew your own bowl of a high grade ceremonial matcha. If it's your first time brewing your own matcha, we will ensure that you'll leave as a matcha pro! With our approach, we'll walk you through each of the steps and tools required to make a delicious bowl that you will get to pair with a Japanese wagashi (a sweet dessert). Not only will you become a tea master by the end of class, but you will also make a new tea friend! *REFERRAL PROGRAM* If you've previously taken this workshop, you may come for free with every referral you bring! Please have your booked guest let us know and we will be happy to accommodate (space permitting).
Tea brings people together and ever since I started my tea journey, I have made many friends from all over the world through one cup of tea. My mission is to build a community of tea enthusiasts who want to share meaningful connections whether you're new to tea or have been drinking it for years. I am the owner of TOMO TEA and have completed a tea apprenticeship at Obubu Tea Farms in Japan. The workshop will be cohosted with another tea expert, Jeff Okamoto. We have both studied tea for over 10 years and now want to share our expertise in Los Angeles. Our expertise includes tea brewing methods using traditional styles from Japan and China, tea farming, technical knowledge on how to process tea by hand and machine, tea storage best practices, and a specialization in Japanese teas.
