We'll start the night in "Tokyo's coolest neighborhood", Koenji, famous for it's vintage clothes stores, live music venues, and Izakaya bars. Our first stop will be a Japanese beer and liquor store with a large selection of Japanese craft and micro brews. This store also has plenty of local sake, wine, liquor, and snacks you can try! Next, we'll drink our beers on the go (completely legal and a popular activity in Japan) while walking to the first craft beer bar of the night and exploring the neighborhood along the way. At the first bar, you'll have a wide selection of Japanese craft beers on draft. This bar is in a quaint, intimate space, and is a favorite among the locals. The beers on tap range from pale ales and IPAs to stouts and lagers. We can also ask the bar owner "master" for recommendations! Then, we'll continue to our second bar a few minutes walk away. This bar is located in a open, homely space, where it's easy to get a table, sit outside on the deck, and sample fresh, local, draft beers ranging from porters and, brown ales, to blonde ales and pilsners. This bar has a full food menu with plenty of tasty snacks to go with your beers! Finally, we'll walk back to JR Koenji station, where our tour will end for the night. At this point, I can show you my favorite ramen, tempura, or yakitori restaurants, as well as give you recommendations for the rest of your trip
I'm a craft beer aficionado and teacher living in Tokyo. Over the past two years I've explored the best of the local craft beer scene, sampled countless beers, and discovered the hidden gems most tourists miss. I'm more than happy to show you my favorite spots, introduce you to the world of Japanese craft beer, and help you navigate Japanese bar culture. I can speak enough Japanese to help you overcome language barriers, make friends with locals, and get access to places that otherwise aren't accessible to non-Japanese speakers. I can also teach you Japanese bar and restaurant vocabulary, as well as give you recommendations to make the most of your trip to Japan. Whether you are a novice beer drinker, or an experienced brewer, I'm sure we'll have good times drinking delicious Japanese craft beer together!
First stop: A Japanese beer, liquor, and wine store with a wide selection of Japanese craft beer / micro brew brands. Second stop: A local favorite craft beer bar, where depending on the day we can meet the owner. Third stop: Another local specialty craft beer bar, where we can eat some snacks and relax in a comfortable space. Finally: I can recommend my favorites of the local restaurants in Koenji that serve the best Japanese specialties!
Our tour will finish around 9:30 PM, so you will have plenty of time to enjoy Koenji and still catch the last train home at the end of the night. I can help with giving directions back to where you are staying as well!
