During your workshop you will learn how to emboss on recycled sheet metal to create a unique surface design, a technique that has been used in this part of Spain for centuries and especially apparent in Moorish work. This will then be used to embellish an item of jewellery or a box or a key ring. Not only will you be learning how to use the tools to create a relief pattern but you can also be learning how to use basic jewellery making pliers during the workshop. Firstly you will choose a shape of wooden base to work on, then you can either sketch a design you would like to work on or find inspiration in the multitude of pattern books provided. Next you will practice with the metal embossing tools and then translate your planned design to the final piece of metal. Once you are happy with your choices of colour, design etc you will complete the centre piece of jewellery. There are a variety of jewellery finishes and chains to choose from and at this point, if you choose to, you can learn to make some of your own jewellery findings such as clasps
Hi, my name is Kay and I have been running workshops in crafts since 1993 mainly through Community Education in Edinburgh and the Lothians. I trained in Jewellery Design at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen and ran my own business for 20 years, selling to trade and individuals all over the UK. I love designing and creating, it's something you just can't stop! I also love it when I get the opportunity to help others to value their own creativity. We all have it, it just needs space and time to explore it, then you never know what you can achieve. Looking forward to meeting you.
A soft drink or water will be provided to keep you refreshed during your workshop
