I will greet you in my house and we will take a moment to get to know each other: You, me and Camilo, the teacher specialized in Peruvian Charango. Then we will learn about the Charango, the result of interlacing between native peruvian and spanish cultures. You will know the Charango's secret history and how it has reached your hands today. You will learn the basic positions and strums of the instrument, using methods specially designed for beginners. By the end of the class, you will be able to play some Peruvian tunes and you will have material to continue learning back at home. The lesson is designed to have a clear communication and easy-to-execute actions for beginners. (There are also more advanced classes available, please consult me about this if you're interested!)
Basically, I've been learning or teaching Peruvian music all my life. My father was a musician and my first music teacher. He had a music academy and as a teenager, I started teaching there, myself. Later I went to college and got a Bachelor's degree in Music. Today I am a singer, I've been fortunate enough to represent Peru in many international stages and my work has received a decoration from Congress; and I still teach at my father's academy. With us will be Camilo Calderon, in my opinion he is one of the best Charango players around. He is also one of my best friends and he plays in my band. He also loves to teach; I can pledge to that, he's my Charango coach. He also teaches and plays at other very important institutions and universities. We make Peruvian music and we teach Peruvian music, that's what we love to do.
Delicious Peruvian Coffee, Tea and Water will be available.
Charangos (the musical instrument) will be available for the guests. Also all equipment needed for a comfortable class.
The class takes place in my home, in a large room that I have equipped to study music comfortably and where I myself teach private singing lessons. My home is in the traditional district of Jesus Maria. Like most of the homes nearby, it is of republican style, built in the 1950's.
Although the set limit is 4 people per class, if a family or similar group of 5 or more wishes to take the class together, we can find a way to accommodate you. Please let me know!
