A lovely, self-contained, modern (with a retro twist) cottage on a Kiwifruit orchard overlooking wetland, farmland and beautiful native trees and plants. A quiet place to regroup, relax and rejuvenate as you listen to the birds, enjoy the fresh produce and herbs from the garden. The cottage is a light and bright space to enjoy some time out with comfortable spaces to hang out in. The fire keeps you warm and cosy in the winter and the deck is a great place to sit and watch nature go by.

Te Huia cottage is a wonderful retreat on a working Kiwifruit orchard hosted by Hana and Pete. We have travelled extensively, in New Zealand and around the world and we enjoy the opportunity to connect with people from all over the planet. Hana is a keen cook and we're blessed with lots of good food and produce from our home garden, orchard and from the beautiful Bay of Plenty. Guests will get to share our preserves, continental breakfast and baking. Hana is of Maori descent and Pete is a 5th generation Kiwi. We like looking after our planet so sustainability is important to us. We use eco-friendly products to reduce the impact on our environment. The cottage has some cool New Zealand art and collectibles.
We have a good quality trundler bed which guests can use as an additional bed. There is a heat pump to keep you cool in summer and warm in winter and we have our very efficient Wood burner for the cool weather (and big stack of nice dry firewood).
Te Huia Cottage is a great place to base yourself for a few days while you explore the Bay of Plenty, Rotorua, Coromandel and Hobbiton. Guests love to come back tp the cottage and unwind after a busy day of adventures where they can relax and plan their next adventure or kick back and take some time out.

The cottage is yours to make yourself at home. We live on site in our house, but you have complete privacy during your stay as the cottage is completely separate. We ask that you take care coming in and out of the property as it is a working kiwifruit orchard. You are welcome to wander through the orchard or find a cool summer spot under the vines to read your book or relax. You will need to check with us first though to ensure that nothing hazardous is going on in the orchard at the time.

You may meet our lovely ginger boy (cat) Toby who only has 3 legs. He has been known on occasion to sit on the deck and look longingly inside and while we don’t encourage him inside, feel free to let him in if you’re a cat lover (remember to let him out again!)
We have a couple of lovely female dogs, Huia (our beautiful older girl named after the extinct native bird, the Huia and a little place called Huia in the Waitakere ranges in Auckland) and Kahu (the younger girl, and the Maori name for the Hawk bird). They are fully enclosed in the fence around the house and will only be out on the orchard if we are with them.

Hana’s home is located in Aongatete, Katikati, Bay Of Plenty, New Zealand.
We are in a rural setting surround by lifestyle blocks and orchards. Katikati is the Avocado capital of NZ and there is an abundance of fruit and produce. There is a well-stocked supermarket in town (8 minutes drive) and plenty of places within 30 minutes to dine. We have a character filled local pub which does pretty good bistro meals, Katikati Bird Gardens and Café and Leveret Estate Wines all within a 5 minute drive. There are plenty of things to do in the beautiful Bay of Plenty all within easy reach by car (bush and waterfall walks nearby and Waihi Beach, Tauranga and Mount Maunganui).
There is a good local plant and produce market which offers great fresh food (fresh fish, prize-winning cheese, wood fired pizza, fruit, vegetables, baking, preserves, samosas) , flowers, plants and great organic natural health products on Fridays.
