The house is located on a 5 acre property with soaring forest on all sides just 35mins drive from the Cairns International Airport. The property is surrounded by lush tropical rainforest including 50m high Kauri Pines, Cadaghi trees, and Black Wattle many of which are endemic to the region. The house is a funky design and completely unique with its architecture being inspired by both South East Asian guest house with a hint European mountain chalet. Cathedral ceilings draw you inside to the kitchen and sunken lounge, complete with slow combustion fire place - great for those cool winter nights. Upstairs are the 4 bedrooms including a loft with private balcony overlooking the forest.

Guests have access to whole house including kitchen with gas top stove, large fridge and dishwasher. Sunken lounge with fireplace, two bathrooms (one with claw bath overlooking the forest garden. Guests have access to all grounds and gardens. The forest is an open corridor for wildlife which includes wallabies, bettongs and cassowaries (you'll need to be lucky). So there are no fences so we just ask that you stick to the marked trail so you don't wander onto other peoples properties. Or get lost.

All toilets flush to a septic tank, so please follow the instructions placed in each bathroom. All water to the house is bore water and drinkable but may have a mineral type aftertaste. 10 litres of fresh drinking water will be supplied per stay.

The township of Speewah consists of rural acreage properties set in what is locally known as Hidden Valley. Once cleared for dairy farming, the rainforest has been allowed to return for the last 60 to 80 years and along with it the re-wilding of the environment which is alive with birdlife.
