Located on the Big Island of Hawaii. Nestled on the flanks of Mauna Loa at 2800 ft., this multi-facetted 12-sided home awaits you. Sweeping views of the southern end of the Big Island of Hawaii. Beautifully designed & appointed home. A rural area located between Kona & Hilo.
Note: A 14.25% State of Hawaii lodging tax is collected separately by the host. This is based on the cleaning fees and your total per night charges.

The house, location and the land - you may never be in a house quite like this again. This beautiful 12 sided house with redwood and cedar interior was built on primal lava land. It has strand woven bamboo floors and a 16' high dome ceiling with a 6' wide skylight for moon gazing at night or watching the clouds float by during the day. It is appointed with delightful beds (queen size) and furnishings.

The house is at 2800'. It can be a bit cool in the morning (wintertime only) so be sure to bring a sweater. Step outside on to the deck in the morning and it is quite pleasant. Keep in mind that many places on the island are at higher elevations and can be cool. Visit Mauna Kea without a sweater and you will regret it (14000 ft.)! Volcano Park itself is over 4000 ft.
The beds are toasty warm! The weather is unpredictable. If you stay long enough, you will experience just about every kind of weather imaginable! It's all good though. The house is located about eight miles from the ocean as the crow flies. Within an hour of the house you will find a multitude of things to see and keep you busy. Just ask!
This area of Hawaii is very rural and removed from the resorts and environments of Kona and Hilo. We are located in the country. Very quiet here. We are located about 1 1/2 hours from both Kona and Hilo International Airports.
Except for the local bar and grill (Mehes), mostly all businesses are closed up around 9 or 10pm. This area is rugged lava land and vegetation is sparse in many areas.
If you see a Nissan Sentra parked at the house, don't be concerned, it belongs there.

Beautiful and rugged lava land containing both pahoehoe and aa flows. There is a rugged energy and beauty to the land. This area of Hawaii is very rural and away from the resorts and environment of Kona and Hilo. We are located in the country. Very quiet here. Except for the local bar, most businesses close up around 9 or 10pm.
As far as the topography and vegetation in and around Ocean View, refer to the pictures. Especially #'s 26, 29 and 30. Those pictures will give you an idea. But like most of Hawaii, in a half an hour, you are in something totally different!
We are located about 1 1/2 hours from both Kona and Hilo International Airports. Not a lot of neighbors. The town of Ocean View is minutes away. Three markets, three gas stations, breakfast and lunch places, pizza parlor, hardware store, bar and restaurant, a great new Thai restaurant (take out),post office, gift shop, second hand store and hair salon.
The laundromat (South Point Suds) is located downtown next to the Malama Market. They offer a drop off service if you do not want to stay and do your own laundry. They are open 8-6 for drop off. The cost is $1.50 per pound with a minimum of $15.
Also there is a great breakfast place (Coffee Grinds) right next to the post office downtown.
Check out Kula Kai Caverns. 1000 year old lava tubes just a few minutes away! Call first as they offer guided tours. Biggest lava tubes on the island.

A lover of warm weather. I first came to the islands about 15 years ago and immediately knew I would build a home here. I built the house myself (with a bit of help). I love this particular area of Hawaii. I am a ballroom dancer. My favorite dance is perhaps west coast swing followed by nightclub two step. I also dance cha-cha, rumba, waltz and others. On the island here I hike a lot and spend a lot of time just doing nothing.
