Conveniently located 1 block from Illinois College, Duncan Park & Illinois School for the Deaf. Walking distance to our Downtown Square. Just a short drive to MacMurray College, Lenz Athletic Field, Passavant Hospital and Illinois School for the Visually Impaired. Just an hour to Lincoln sites in Springfield, Historic Route 66, the state capital, and more.

The scale of this late Victorian "Eastlake Mansard" mansion is truly grand, with soaring ceilings and 8.5' high solid wood doors and original details. Our interior looks are truly elegant, with many great antique items that are sturdy and serviceable. We like to give our guests a feeling of how it would be to live there in the late 1800's. Families take note, our "Unit B" is a great value as a family unit ... besides sleeping four, it has a separate small child's bedroom with a classic 1850's single bed and nightstand to sleep 5 total.

Guests may use either the front or rear verandas for relaxing and enjoying the neighborhood scene over coffee with friends. You will find many friendly locals walking and exercising their pets in this neighborhood.

Free WiFi, password part of welcoming process. Are you on Federal or State business? if so, message us for government contract rates. As for the rest of the mansion … one unit is reserved for a full-time resident. So there is someone living there with an interest in keeping the property safe at all time. And the attic originally was designed as a play place for the great-grandchildren of Augustus Ayers. As my construction and restoration work in my other Ayers properties keep progressing one day I will get to the point where I will remodel the attic as my abode.

My business and property manager Teri uses a suite for an office, laundry and supply station. I'm off around town overseeing the detailed restoration work of Ayers Mansion I; as well as the development of The Esprit de Corps Academy (An El Sistema inspired performing arts academy), Underground Railroad museum, and performing arts venue at Lovejoy Hall (another Augustus Ayers creation, the former Congregational Church). Or just enjoying life in Jacksonville with T. Bone Pickens, my basset hound.
