Villa Solbacka is a charming artist's home, built in 1913 and located in Billnäs, just 10 km from Fiskars village.

The beautiful windows and other architectural details give the house an unique atmosphere. The house is decorated with solid old wooden furniture, many of them handmade. There are two fireplaces in the house. Outside the master bedroom there is a sunny balcony.
The building is surrounded by majestetic pine-trees and maples. In the outbuiling there is a sauna and a small terrace.

The villa is located in Billnäs-village, just a few hundred meters from Svartå river and the historical iron works founded in 1641 by Carl Billsten. Enjoy the beatiful surroundings with the pittoresque red houses from the 18th century.
Nature is all around you with forests and nearby lakes. There is a new walking, cycling and riding trail from Billnäs via Åminnefors to Fiskars, built on the old railway between the iron works.
In Finland everybody has the right to pick berries and mushrooms in the forests, so you can gather ingredients for dinner yourself. In the forests nearby you may also hear and see rare finnish birds.

Fiskars iron work, founded in 1649, is just 10 km away. Fiskars has been nominated the best domestic travel destination and given the nickname "Woodstock of Finland". It is known today as the centre of Finnish art and design with exhibitions, events, workshops and shops. It is the home of numerous artists like painters, sculptors, cabinet makers, ceramicists, jewelers, blacksmiths , designers etc. You also find high quality restaurants, cosy cafés and local breweries. The environment is fantastic with its parks, beautiful buildings and the river. There is also a tree species path with 23 different kinds of trees within just a few kilometers. This path was created by our father, the owner of Villa Solbacka, who was working for Fiskars company at the time. He was also one of the founders of the cooperative for artists in Fiskars.

Ekenäs (Tammisaari), a pittoresque little town by the sea is 20 km away. It was founded by king Gustaf Wasa in 1546. It has an old town with wooden houses from the late 18th and the 19th century. The streets have names after crafters such as Hatter's Street and Linen Weaver's Street.
There are many nice beaches and parks, perfect for a picnic, and marinas with summer restaurants.
Ramsholmen, a forest park with noble deciduous trees and the ground covered with wood anemones in bloom is something you must see if you visit in May.
Nature is all around you, like the beautiful archipelago with its 1300 islands.
In town there are small shops, which still provide personal service. Do not miss the tiny pizzeria run by a Michelin chef and using local products only (obviously the olive oil and the wine make an exception to the rule).
The worldfamous painter Helene Schjerfbeck lived in Ekenäs for many years. The Ekenäs Museum has a departement for her art. There are also guided Schjerfbeck tours in town.

The medieval Rasborg Castle ruins, built in the 1370s is 15 km away. It is is one of the most grand castle ruins in Finland.

There are several beautiful medieval stone churches in the neighbourhood. The nearest ones are St. Cathrine's Churc in Karis, St. Mary's Church in Pojo and Tenala Church.

Hangö (Hanko), the most southern town of Finland, is about 50 km away. It is a summerparadise with many beaches, marinas, beautiful villas along the beach, cozy restaurants. In summer you can visit Bengskär lighthouse, 30 km southwest of Hangö. It is the highest lighthouse of the Nordic countries and has a dramatic history .

Hi, Villa Solbacka was our fathers home for four decades. Now my sister Kristina and I have fixed and repainted the house to welcome you as our guest. We wanted to keep the atmosphere of the house as it was, with the old solid furniture still there. Kristina lives in Helsinki, but I live nearby (in a house designed by the same architect, Max Frelander, who has designed Villa Solbacka). If you need help, just call me. We hope you will love the villa as much as we do :)
