10 Fun Things To Do in the North Creek Area
Learn more at visitnorthcreek.org

1) Revolution Rail.
Railbiking with Revolution Rail Co. is a fun excursion activity that allows riders to ride the railroad tracks under their own power and explore a section of the Adirondacks that has never seen passenger traffic.

2) Gore Mountain
All year fun! Gore Mountain has 107 trails and 15 lifts, and one snow train. Gore mountain has a wide variety of alpine terrain catering to alpine skiers of all levels. Gore also has 12 Nordic trails for cross country skiing. Visit Gore Mountain in seasons outside of winter for scenic skyrides and recreational activities, including lift-serviced hiking and downhill mountain biking on a 10+ mile trail network spanning all their beautiful peaks. Test your skills on their disc golf course Airbender Woods located in the base area or take one of their self-guided interpretive hikes. Be sure to check out their fun hiking challenges, and don’t miss your chance to walk their labyrinth located at the top of the gondola. Lunch is available at the Open Pit Grille– dine on the sundeck or take it out on the trails for a picnic adventure. Don’t forget to also check out the Historic North Creek Ski Bowl, which is connected to Mt. Gore, and is a pioneering ski area in the United States since it opened in 1934 as a small, downhill skiing site.

3) Lakes and rivers!
We have several beautiful lakes located near the property that are fun for day trips and water adventures. Check out 13th Lake, Indian Lake, Schroon Lake, and many more. We are also located on the Hudson River, which has several vista points and entrance areas for public usage. Enjoy the natural beauty of the Adirondacks!

4) Whitewater rafting
Enjoy 15 miles of action and dozens of breathtaking rapids on this world-class whitewater adventure. Located in Upstate NY’s Adirondack Mountain Region, the Hudson River is the perfect place for your
next adventure! There are several companies in the area; Adirondack River Outfitters is just down the road from our home. The others are Adirondack Adventures, Whitewater Challengers, Beaver Brook Outfitters, Square Eddy Expeditions, North Creek Rafting Company Day Trips, to name a few.

5) The North Creek Mosaic Project
Artist Kate Hartley saw the large concrete wall on Main Street in North Creek as the perfect canvas for a very unique, very large-scale art project. Fast forward to today, and down Main Street in North Creek, you can see a huge community mural with beautifully colored tiles and stones depicting scenes from the Adirondacks.

6) The North Creek Depot Museum
Listed on the State and National Registrar, the North Creek Railroad Station Complex is located in
the hamlet of North Creek. The complex also includes the restored freight house and engine house that are currently occupied by the railroad, a sand tower, and a ninety-foot turntable. Historians remember the North Creek Railroad Station as the place where Theodore Roosevelt on September 14, 1901 learned of the death of President McKinley and of his own succession to the Presidency of the United States. In addition to this well-known story, the station deserves attention for its role as the northernmost terminus of the Adirondack Railroad, a line that played an indispensable role in making the central Adirondacks accessible for recreational and industrial development. The complex is also noteworthy in that it preserves (in microcosm) an intact collection of structures associated with railroad history.

7) Nettle Meadow Farm and Artisan Cheese
Nettle Meadow Sanctuary Farm is the home to well over 130 farm sanctuary animals and an award-winning cheese company. Nettle Meadow is committed to the principles of natural ingredients, happy and healthy animals, and carefully hand-crafted artisan cheeses. They make several
varieties of soft goat cheeses and are well known for their semi-aged cheeses, including their award winning triple crème, Kunik, made from goat milk and Jersey cow cream, Nettle Peaks and Crane Mountain made from 100% goat milk.

8) Barton Garnet Mines
The Barton Garnet Mines, first established in 1878, is one of the world's largest garnet deposits.
The hardest garnet in the world is only found on Gore Mountain, making the garnet extremely rare. The Barton garnet has an unusual and beautiful ruby red color that ashes in the sun. In 1969, the Governor of New York, Nelson Rockefeller, made the Barton garnet the New York State Gem Stone. Take the garnet mine tour and learn about the history, geology, and present day operations of the garnet mines and how to find your own gemstones. The experience includes gem cutting demonstrations, a mineral collection and the ability to search for your own gem quality garnet. Don’t forget to visit the Mineral Shop to take some beautiful gems back home.

9) Tannery Pond Community Center
It started with a dream to encourage protection of open space and to retain the community character of Johnsburg. Tannery Pond Center is a community arts center serving the Gore Mountain Region in the Adirondacks with educational, cultural, recreational and social events. Tannery Pond Center is dedicated to bringing the best possible performances, art exhibits and community events to the Gore Mountain Region in the Adirondacks – so make sure to check out their annual calendar and stop by for information about local hikes and things to do!

10) Barkeater Chocolates
Handmade artisan chocolates in the Adirondacks featuring artisan gourmet truffles, handmade chocolate bark, chocolate bars, cocoa and seasonal goodies. And don't forget the oversized peanut butter cups! Visit the Education Room featuring a short factory video, as well as fun facts about chocolate!
