Guests love to stay in Fremantle because it has everything required for a pleasant stay right on the doorstep. No need to get in the car once you get here!
However Fremantle is so close to Perth city( 25 minutes drive or take the train) that it makes sense to stay in Fremantle and drive up to Kings Park to see the sunset and the city lights come on. It is also beautiful to make a 10 minute drive up to Cottesloe beach and watch the sunset over the ocean. Penguin island is about a 35 minute drive away and caver sham wildlife park will be about an hours drive away. A beautiful spot that not many tourists seem to get to is Point Walter which is about 10 minutes drive away. This is a park on the banks of the river. There is a cafe there and a jetty where children swim, and a sandbank which you can walk out on and watch the kite surfers from.

As a local here is my 3 day suggested itinerary.

1. Walk up to the town hall clock (5 minutes) turn right at boost juice shop and walk through the mall. The first set of traffic lights is market street which is commonly called the cappuccino strip because it has an abundance of cafes and bars and as the name suggests this is where the weekend markets are! I suggest you walk straight across the lights at market st and come back to explore that later, keep going straight up High street as far as you can, this takes you past some of the lovely old buildings and up to the Roundhouse which is where the convicts used to arrive. It is well worth going up the stairs to explore the roundhouse and admire the view. Next walk to the left and take in the lively Fishermans wharf and treat yourself to fish and chips. Little Creature brewery is here, it's an excellent place for food and beer and they will even lend you a free bicycle for the day!,,, next cross over the railway line towards the big wheel, to the right is the skateboard park, some of those guys are amazing. Head over towards the Esplanade Hotel which is the big white building and I you walk up Essex st you will up back at the cappuccino strip. The markets are just to your right.
2 a tour of the prison is fun and interesting, I prefer the Ghost tour of an evening.
There is a free bus around town called the CAT. It is very nice to jump on this and head to South Beach where you can swim in the ocean and walk along the beach and again there is a very nice cafe here called the pickled fig.
If you have a car a drive up to Cottesloe beach to see the sunset is a must. ( though Cottesloe is beautiful at any time of the day!,, I recommend a drive to Cottesloe then make your way over to the river to the lookout at. It is a spectacular view. From here drive along the river , it's beautiful, and make your back onto Stirling hwy and along up into kings park. Have a walk!,, if you don't have a car I may be able to arrange a driver to take you on a tour like this.
