Sleep under the stars! Hidden away in a secluded end of the gardens is the eclectic Monty's Hideaway. The perfect spot for a uniquely memorable romantic get away.
There is simply nothing like it in Australia! Come with an adventurous spirit and you won't be disappointed.
Monty's Hideaway is a luxurious 20ft shipping container - studio with a retractable roof over your bed. NO fly screen. NO glass. Just pure fresh Tasmanian AIR above your bed when the roof is OPEN. When the roof is CLOSED enjoy the underfloor heating and private space.
The main room is cosy (as photographed). There is a spacious shower room with a lifting roof (open to the fresh air) so you can shower in the morning sun. And there is a wonderfully secluded deck with wood burner/chiminea and pleasant views towards the Derwent River.
6 star energy rating, underfloor heating, heated towel rail, Sonos hifi, wifi, TV, fridge, tea and coffee facilities, high quality linen and towels. There is NO kitchen.
Monty's Hideaway is named after Field Marshall Montgomery, arguably Tasmania's most famous resident. He grew up in this place and was always in trouble, running away into the gardens for long periods.

This is NOT wheel chair accessible. Earlier check-in times can sometimes be arranged but even then cannot be guaranteed due to events out of our control - children usually!

The house is located on one of Hobart's most attractive tree-lined streets on the edge of Battery Point - just at the end of our street. The area is great for walking around, brimming with heritage buildings.
Some of Hobart's top places to eat and drink are nearby within walking distance: JamJar, Pigeon Hole, Solo Pasta, Da Angelo's, Me Wah, The Duchess, Chillies, Jackman & McRoss Bakery.
There is a good bottle shop (liquor store/off-licence) and high quality food/deli store within 200 metres.

I am Australian and have lived in the UK and Japan. My husband, Dermot, grew up in Ireland and has lived in the UK and Australia. We love meeting people, having a laugh, fresh air, walking and cycling, beautiful scenery and great food and wine --- Tasmania! We are both involved in running our Airbnb apartments, having expanded since our initial listing in 2012. My career has been in healthcare (mainly midwifery) and my husband's in finance. We are keen travellers, especially if it involves sailing. We have four school age children so we are also good at keeping ourselves to ourselves, as appropriate. We have taken on the challenge of looking after this 19th century house, the Anglican Bishop's residence from the 1840s till recently, and spend a lot of time on it. I am particularly fond of searching for interesting pieces of forgotten furniture, making/growing things and trying to be creative in kitchen. Dermot is particularly mad about his growing solar thermal project in the orchard! We were drawn to Airbnb as we get to know a little about our house guests and vice versa. Also, we find that it connects us with people who are considerate and pleasant which is important!
