“Another of the quintessentially Athenian all day bars that faces Monastiraki with expansive views of Plaka and the Acropolis. Its rooftop terrace sits above their accommodation facilities. Friday and Saturday nights are no doubt the busiest nights, attracting a younger mixed crowd of locals and tourists. Cocktails come from award winning bar tender Theodore Pyrillos. Ideal day time stop for refreshments and to capture some great city shots.”

“Syntagma Square ("Constitution Square") is the central square of Athens. The square is named after the Constitution that Otto, the first King of Greece, was obliged to grant after a popular and military uprising on 3 September 1843. It is located in front of the 19th century Old Royal Palace, housing the Greek Parliament since 1934. Syntagma Square is the most important square of modern Athens from both a historical and social point of view, at the heart of commercial activity and Greek politics.”

History Museum
“Byzantine history buffs will be overwhelmed by the vast collection, focusing on the Byzantine and post-Byzantine periods from the 3rd to the 21st Centuries AD. The Byzantine Museum houses more than 25,000 objects from several former provinces of Byzantium including Serbia, Bulgaria, Thessaloniki, Mystras and Crete. Located near the upmarket area of Kolonaki, the main museum building resembles a Tuscan villa set in a beautiful enclosed courtyard away from the busy main road of Vasilissis Sofias. It’s a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and you can easily picture yourself sitting in the nearby coffee shop with a good book. The building was built in 1948 in the Tuscan Renaissance style and is an architectural rarity in Athens.”

“Located next to the National Gardens, the Zappeion Mansion, or simply, ‘Zappeion’, as it is called by the locals, is one of the most impressive and important historical buildings in Athens. As early as 1859, the Greek government had been contemplating renovating the structure, using plans drawn up by Theophile Hansen and his French counterpart Boulanger. Although well funded by Evangelos Zappas, the project never quite got off the ground. Eventually, Hansen became involved and the project was finally approved. Its official inauguration took place in 1888. Ever since, the Zappeion has become a symbol of modern Athens. It has been home to a variety of functions, including exhibitions, official ceremonies, parts of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, and Hellenic Radio in 1936. Today it serves as a press centre for political parties during elections.”

“Greece is known for having the most beautiful beaches in the world and the most quaint villages in Europe, and now the country can add the Athens suburb of Kerameikos — one of the coolest neighborhoods in the world — to the list. Forbes has announced that the hip, trendy and artistic neighborhood is the place to be if you are looking for cool things to do. The vibrant neighborhood has murals painted on walls, new exciting restaurants with fusion concepts and is the trendiest place in Athens to have a drink with friends. The hippie-like atmosphere of the neighborhood has caught on and even tourists check it out and hang out with the local crowds. There are up-and-coming artists who display their work at galleries, theatres, bars, and there is something do around every corner. Kerameikos is just a 10 minute walk from the historic center of Athens, and as Forbes puts it: “the laidback Kerameikos neighborhood seems to live in a magical world of its own.” “It’s a place where old and new, Greece’s storied past and often turbulent present, tradition and forward-looking creativity all coexist happily together. At the weekly street market, the neighborhood comes alive in a riot of sights, smells and flavors. In recent years Kerameikos’s low rents and old-time feel have lured creative young Athenians to the area, where they have opened inventive restaurants, bars and cafés along with galleries and theaters. Joining Kerameikos’s rich trove of existing old-school establishments, these new spots have helped create one of the Athens’ most exciting dining and cultural scenes.” ”
