Chalet Lièvre, in Grimentz, is our much loved ski-in/out chalet-apartment for up to 10 guests, built and furnished to the highest standards. There’s a welcoming wood stove in the spacious open plan sitting/dining room. Solid oak floors with warm underfloor heating throughout. Five bedrooms, two travertine-marble tiled bathrooms (baths and showers in each), a separate loo, and a washing machine and tumble drier make for much more comfortable living than found in most alpine accommodation.
Chalet Lièvre has been carefully maintained and still looks and feels new. With double aspect cathedral windows looking out over the Val d'Anniviers for sun-peaked mountain views at breakfast, right through to crisp linen and vintage blankets at bedtime, we've tried to think of everything to make it a real home from home.
As it is our home and very dear to us, we are extra careful in booking requests for people who do not have reviews already, unless we are confident about who you are and why you are coming. We hope you understand! We welcome people from all over the world but simply expect that they will look after Le Lièvre and be respectful of our neighbours and friends in the building.
The 5 bedrooms (2 double, 2 twins, 1 bunk), are arranged so that two couples can have a private space upstairs in comfy double beds, and up to six others can sleep downstairs, in the twins/bunks. The bunkroom is very small - about 2 m wide and 3.5 m long, so best suited for children or a single adult. For this reason, although it sleeps up to 10, we would recommend a maximum of nine adults. It goes without saying that this will still mean that four people have to share two twin rooms!
There is one full bathroom on each floor (with powerful showers and 24/7 hot water and heating), and an additional loo on the ground floor, so post-ski baths/showers aren’t such a hassle.
The open plan kitchen/living area and mezzanine chill-out/media area provide plenty of space for extended families and friends.
Underfloor heating throughout and a wood burning stove ensure you are warm and cosy in the winter months, while wide opening picture windows and french doors to the balcony ensure fresh Alpine breezes in the warmer seasons.
Please respect the environment and our pockets by keeping the room thermostats at or below 21°C as marked. Over the past few years we’ve had to pay 20% of the heating and hot water bill for the entire building, so would appreciate it if you could be careful!
Families love the washing machine & tumble dryer - rare in alpine accommodation.
While on the subject of cleaning, you should find the apartment spotless, or pretty much so. Please tell us immediately through the app or by message if you find it less than perfect. as the cleaners are expected to work to a high standard. We pass on the exact cost of the cleaners to guests- in Switzerland they are very well-paid!
Please note that you can book for a minimum of four nights from Wednesday to Sunday so you can do long weekends. It is not possible to offer shorter weekend stays as each one prevents week long rentals for two weeks.
Ski-in for most of the season and we are just a few steps away from the telecabine and cable car in the morning. It’s even an easy walk with small children, which makes a huge difference to a holiday with small people. The locked, heated and ventilated ski room is on the ground floor. Theft is almost non-existent in the valley and many people leave their skis at the top or in the lift station.
Secure WiFi throughout the apartment with unlimited high speed internet. For inclement weather and evenings there’s Smart Cable TV with 200+ channels, Netflix, and a powerful Sound Bar. There is a Sonos 5 speaker in the main living space, (so you can use your own music simply by downloading the app).
There are 2 parking spaces (one in the garage) so access with suitcases is easy.
Plenty of games for kids in the wooden chest on the mezzanine chill-out area. Ask us to rent/borrow cots etc.
We cannot normally accommodate pets, to enable us to provide an allergy-free space for others. However we have a working Cocker spaniel who visits. He does not shed much. If you have a very well-behaved dog for whom you are prepared to vouch, please ask us if you can bring him.
Although we set this at 4 PM, in less busy periods you may be able to arrive earlier. Similarly with checkout. Please ask us or our chalet host.
Bed linen, bed-making and towels:
please note the additional costs for linen, towels and bed-making (where required). These are about 20-Fr.38 per bed + towels and will be invoiced separately to you before your stay, through AirBnB. Many European guests bring their own bed-linen and towels and do not want us to include the cost of linen and towel rental and bed-making in our rental charges.
A final clean is included as part of your total price. This is the fee we pay for the cleaning - it’s expensive in Switzerland! The cleaners expect the kitchen, including the ovens to be left clean and will charge us (& so you) more if they have to clean them.
And if you find anything broken, or more important, you, your guests or children break anything, please report it both to us and to the Chalet Services company so that we can make good for our next guests. Nothing is irreplaceable except trust.
Check out time is very important to the cleaners-they need every spare minute of the day if they are cleaning on Saturdays. Please ensure that you are ready to leave by 10, or you have checked with Raphael that you can stay later. You would be able to leave your bags somewhere, we are sure.
We very much hope you enjoy staying in our home as much as we do!
If you've been told of this magical, hidden gem, you may be keen to discover it. If you’ve already decided to holiday in Grimentz then you’ve already heard of this four season resort, which is lovely all year round. It's reputed to be the third prettiest village in Switzerland- with its 500 year old chalets in the old town it's easy to understand why.
In the winter there is plenty of piste skiing for all levels at the five resorts covered by the ski pass, and the area is famed for its off-piste and ski touring.
Grimentz is a picture-postcard perfect Swiss village at 1650 metres, served by a télécabine to the slopes of Grimentz and a fabulous cable car to Zinal, which in the winter offer 65 km of piste skiing and limitless off piste/ski touring opportunities, virtually from the chalet door. Both lifts are within about 150 m of our home, and will whisk you within about 7 minutes to the ski areas of either resort. Restricting the lifts from the village to just two means that there is no ugly infrastructure to spoil the glorious views.
The skiing in Grimentz and Zinal is north, east and west-facing, high, and snow-sure right through each season, from early December to Easter (and beyond if you are a ski tourer).
It is also easy to access by car or bus the other three resorts in the Val d’Anniviers - Vercorin for great tree skiing, St-Luc and Chandolin for sunny slopes and masses more off-piste routes. If you feel the need (no one ever has) to go to Crans Montana or Zermatt, they're 75-90 minutes away by car. Skiers from Crans often come to our valley though, so we reckon the skiing must be much better!
The off-piste/touring opportunities in the area are legendary, and we can recommend various guides to ensure you get the most out of the area and stay safe. You can access both the Val de Rechy and Orzival with ease from the highest lifts in Grimentz and start your morning in unforgettable and frequently untracked powder.
Out of the ski season, classic hiking routes abound and many people from all over the world come to Grimentz for spring, summer and autumn hiking holidays.
Mountain biking: the area offers extensive lift-served and X/C/enduro mountain biking, starting right outside our door or a short drive away. For experienced and fit riders, two world-famous trails begin from the doorstep - the Brazilian and the Argentinian. Others are easily accessible. There is a bike park in nearby St Luc and further riding in Crans Montana opposite us on the other side of the valley. The local pump track is excellent and the neighbouring carpark offers a great space for technical training/practice. The Grand Raid (Verbier to Grimentz MTB race) happens around 17-23rd August every year and we can talk you through it if you're thinking of doing it and staying in Grimentz before or after the ride.
The outdoor swimming pool in Vissoie and indoor pool in Zinal (15 minutes away) and swimming lakes at Sierre and Sion (30/40 minutes) provide glorious opportunities for open-water swimmers. For the more adventurous wild swimmer, mountain lakes abound and if you are a hardy type, they offer wonderful opportunities.
There is a challenging Via Ferrata and small climbing wall in the village, a bouldering area by the campsite, a ‘squirrel run’/high ropes course with zipwires in St Luc, and bungy jumping further down the valley.
And after all that winter fresh air and activity, we are a minute’s walk from 'Chez Florioz', the most popular après-ski venue in town, for drinks and light snacks. However, being Switzerland, there is of course no resulting nuisance from the customers and the bar shuts at about 9 pm! It’s closed outside the ski season.
