“This pier was built on the remains of the ship San Carlo that sank on this point in 1740, becoming in 1743 the base for the pier called “Molo San Carlo”. At the end of the 1st world war on November 3rd 1918, the destroyer “Audace” came to the city and the pier was renamed. Funnily enough, the 3rd of November was already a holiday in the city that celebrates Saint Justus, patron of the city. Insider tip: Avoid the pier in days of strong bora as it’s very exposed to the wind. Rather go to Eataly and take one of the tables in the far end and enjoy the Bora with a view on the sea. ”

“The Butterfly House of Bordano is a corner of tropical forest in Friuli Venezia Giulia. It is the largest display of live butterflies and insects in Italy, with 1,000 square feet of heated greenhouses, exhibitions and workshops. More than 400 species of butterflies from around the world are housed in three large-garden greenhouses that reproduce their natural habitats, with exotic plants and animals: tropical Africa, Asia and the rainforests of the Amazon basin.”

“Waterfall Savica is possibly the most famous and the most beautiful and dramatic waterfall in Slovenia. Some say it is ‘too touristy’, but there is a reason a place is ‘too touristy’ and that reason is because the place is so incredibly beautiful. Why should not as many people as possible enjoy it?”

“Vršič pass is the highest road pass in Slovenia and connects Kranjska Gora (Gorenjska region) with Bovec (Primorska region). The road, built by Russian war prisoners during the 1st world war, runs through the heart of Julian Alps and the views from the road simply call out for a stop-over. A short walk at the summit of Vršič pass is described here and is meant especially for those who wish to "stretch" their legs and have a meal in one of the mountain huts on the way. The walk offers an exceptionally good view of Mt. Prisojnik wall and other summits on both sides of the pass. Also suitable for children.”

“ Piazza Unità d'Italia (English: Unity of Italy Square) is the main square in Trieste, a seaport city in northeast Italy. Located at the foot of the hill with the castle of San Giusto, the square faces the Adriatic Sea. It is often said to be Europe's largest square located next to the sea. The square was built during the period when Trieste was the most important seaport of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire and includes the city's municipal buildings and other important palaces.”
