“Alpine lakes, majestic mountains, green valleys, beautiful rivers, spectacular waterfalls, attractive gorges, lush green pastures, sweeping vistas and more. The Triglav National Park has it all. It is the only Slovenian national park and one of the oldest European parks (established in 1981). It covers 4% of the entire Slovenia (880 square kilometers), almost across the entire area of the Julian Alps. The specific feature is its dynamic intact nature and its richness of vegetation and numerous endangered animals. Not so far from the city bustle and only about 10 minutes drive from Bled you can enjoy in the pure and intact nature.”

“Personally, I was postponing a visit of the cave - as I thought 'well, it's just a cave' - and I was wrong. It is really impressive - one of the largest empty spaces under earth, this cave merits its name - it is gigantic! A must see! As the entrance fee is relatively high, you might want to get the FVG travel card that allows you to visit all venues of the region, for slightly more than the amount the entrance fee of the Grotta Gigante alone.”

“The Butterfly House of Bordano is a corner of tropical forest in Friuli Venezia Giulia. It is the largest display of live butterflies and insects in Italy, with 1,000 square feet of heated greenhouses, exhibitions and workshops. More than 400 species of butterflies from around the world are housed in three large-garden greenhouses that reproduce their natural habitats, with exotic plants and animals: tropical Africa, Asia and the rainforests of the Amazon basin.”

“If you follow backwards the Cosa creek up through Val Cosa, near to where it spills out of the mountain you find Pradis’ caves, a unique place with natural arches and caverns, a spot of a rare beauty. Nearby there’s also a museum of the caves containing the prehistoric archaeological findings of the area. The visit to the caves is suitable for families with children, but keep in mind there are 207 steps!”

“Beautiful Caves!!! Nice way to spend a few hours getting fresh air and step back from reality. It doesn't take much time to walk through but it is certainly worth the trip. The wood does get a bit slippery, just take your time. There is also a restaurant at the end.”

“Mostnica Gorge is located in the surrounding area of Lake Bohinj, about 35 minutes drive from the Bled area. The best place to start the exploration of Mostnica Gorge is in the Stara Fuzina village, where you pass the Zois’ mansion right up to Devil’s Bridge. Not far from the bridge is a trailhead that leads through a forest, where you can view this beautiful gorge. The crystal clear Mostnica stream has carved a 2-kilometer gorge and you can observe interesting creatures of nature along the trail, i.e. waterfalls, pools etc. A hollow rock which got the name “Little Elephant” is especially interesting, since it emerged when the water broke through a rock. The hike takes about one and a half hour and it’s a quite comfortable hike.”

“The natural reserve of Val Rosandra is one of my favourite places. You can go there by bus and follow the different paths. There is also the possibility to go by bike, taking the ciclopedale, an old, abandoned railway line that is now a very nice biking/hiking trail leading to Slovenia and Croatia. In the valley itself, there is a waterfall, you can eventually even cool down in one of the natural swimming pools. The views are incredible - and all this is just a 20 minutes bus ride from the city center away. In the little village Botazzo at the border to Slovenia, you can have something to eat and drink. Ask me about the different possibilities, I will advise you which trail you might want to take. ”

“Komna is a vast plateau, which rises on the west side of Lake Bohinj. In winter this is a popular ski-touring area. The hut on Komna is open also during winter and can be a nice hiking destination on its own, but for the more ambitious mountaineers it presents a lovely and comfortable base for winter adventures in the area.”
