Newly remodeled guest house with YOUR OWN PRIVATE GARAGE, washer/dryer, dishwasher, and kitchenette. Double bed, laptop or writing desk, "chair and a half" recliner and TV. You'll feel like you're up in a tree house with windows overlooking maple trees and a redbud. Shared backyard with patios, fire pit and grill. The best part of all is that you're walking distance from the Westport shops and restaurants. Only a 5- to 10-minute drive from the Plaza, 39th street shops, and downtown.
This is a "tiny house" for someone who wants to live the minimalist lifestyle. Why have a big house to store a bunch of things when you're going to spend your time outside enjoying restaurants, coffee shops, art, music and nature? In this secret hideaway, you'll feel like you're up in a treehouse, looking out at the redbud and the maple trees. The location can't be beat ... you are walking distance from the Westport restaurants, a 24-hour grocery store, the hardware store, a natural foods grocery store, shopping like Cost Plus World Market, record stores, book stores, live music, the comedy club, and more.
The guest house is a stand-alone building, with the garage for your car on the first level, and the apartment on the second level. It's a real luxury to have a secure garage for parking your car ... especially when you're living in a place where things are so convenient for walking. You may find you end up parking your car and forgetting about it!
The kitchenette includes a good sized refrigerator and freezer, a big kitchen sink, dishes (cups, plates, bowls, and silverware), and a 42-inch round drop-leaf table that can seat 4 people. We equipped the kitchenette with a Cuisinart toaster oven / broiler (fits 6 slices of toast or a baking pan for cornbread, cupcakes, pizzas, chikn nuggets, and such), an electric skillet for frying up sausages, or making pasta, pancakes, jambalaya, one-pot meals, etc, an InstaPot for making rice and steamed veggies, soup and yogurt, a Ninja blender, an electric hot water kettle, a microwave, and a coffee maker. With all those things, I can do everything I would have wanted to do on a stove. Not taking up space with a conventional stove gave us space for a dishwasher and the washer/dryer combo.
Of course we also furnished the kitchen with essentials like can opener, wine bottle opener, knives and cutting boards, spatulas, serving spoons, dish towels, silicon hot pads, place mats and cloth napkins, and so on. Yes, we remembered to provide a hair dryer, iron and ironing board, broom and dustpan, trash bins for the bathroom, kitchen, and bedroom, laundry baskets, and hangers in the closet.
The bedroom area includes a full size bed with sheets, blankets and pillows. There is a cozy nook with a "chair and a half" recliner and a 32-inch smart TV (stream your favorite Netflix or other services that you may subscribe to). The writing or laptop desk folds down when not in use. From the desk, you can see the redbud's pink flowers in springtime, the green foliage in summer, and the gold leaves in autumn. Two foldable chairs are provided, which can be used at the desk or at the round table in the kitchen (in case you're having friends over, and they want to experience the Tiny House life!).
The bathroom is lovely and modern (shower only, no tub). The walk-in closet has drawers and shelves for your clothes and shoes, and about 5 feet of hanging space (clothes hangers provided).
Here's something you might not expect: the tiny house includes a washer/dryer combo! It's a space saving unit, so you can only do a half-load of laundry at a time, and it does take about twice as long to dry the clothes. But how convenient, not having to lug your clothes to a laundry mat. Because it's a washer/dryer combo, if you fill it only half full, then you can set it so that it will wash the clothes and then AUTOMATICALLY DRY THEM. No more having to remember to switch your clothes from the washer to the dryer. Imagine being able to put your clothes in the wash before going to work and then coming back home to clothes that have already been washed AND dried.
Your private entrance includes a small porch, where you can relax under the shade of maple and walnut trees (in the summer and fall; in the winter, of course, it's quite sunny, once the trees lose their leaves). You can access your private entrance by taking the flagstone pathway from your private garage, or you can come back home by walking through the backyard. The shared backyard includes patios, a hammock swing, a fire pit, and a grill. The backyard is fully fenced, with locked gates (you need to enter a combination code to open the gates). Professional landscaping is included for the backyard, and it's lovely at night, with the landscape lighting and the gas-powered fire pit. (The backyard is shared with the Airbnb guests in the main house.)
This is a definitely a "tiny house" ... only 250 square feet of living space ... but with the 250 square foot garage and outdoor spaces included, it might be "just right" for you.
You will be walking distance from the Westport shops and restaurants and just a 5-minute drive from the Plaza, the 39th street shops, and more. Imagine being able to "park your car and forget it." Grocery stores, shops and restaurants are all right around the corner. You're only a 10-minute drive to downtown. Centrally located, it's a quick drive to just about anywhere in the Kansas City metro.
