Welcome to Casa Velero, our “off the grid” tiny home on a secluded Caribbean beach. The home is brand new and features custom furnishings built from exotic woods that will leave you breathless. Striving to be as Eco-Friendly as possible, our Tiny Home is solar powered and features a composting toilet and its own water collection system for washing. We welcome you to our spectacular beach home.
Your custom built Tiny Home is situated right on your own beach, often with no one in sight for miles. Have your morning coffee on the large front deck as you watch the sun rise and plan your day. There are no other guests here so it’s all yours to enjoy.
From the moment you step onto the 8’ X 15’ front deck and open the double patio doors that face the Caribbean, you will be totally wowed at the custom woodwork inside made from local exotic woods by master craftsmen. You have a small kitchen with the basics and refrigerator, 2 burner stove, bathroom with a composting toilet and a shower for two. High 12’ ceilings give the feeling of much more space and airiness and the dimmable LED ceiling lights allow you to create the mood you desire.
All electricity is supplied by a professionally installed solar system. Lots of windows front, back and side allow the Caribbean breezes to keep you cool day and night.
We wanted the best bed in Costa Maya so you get a good night’s sleep while hearing the waves lap against your private beach.... and we found it.
This is an “Accommodation Based”rental meaning that there is no daily room service but will change your linens and very 3 days and make sure you have ample drinking water and gas. Of course, the Home is fully equipped with the dishes, glasses, cutlery, pots and pans and utensils so you can prepare your own meals at home.
Things to do:
We have a number of water toys that you will have access to, specifically, snorkelling gear, kayak and a small laser sailboat. David will be happy to show you how to set things up and offer advice on where you can and should go.
Cruise Ship days in town - Always fun to watch. We’ll often abandon the peace and quiet to enjoy tourist watching in town. Order up a margarita and watch the fun.
Puerto Angel - Approximately 7 km south f us for s a section of beach where the reef is deep and allows the big swells to get to shore. It stays shallow for hundreds of meters so you can do some exceptional body surfing or boogie boarding.
Nature Tours - Our good friend Victor could take you out on a day of nature watching. He speaks excellent English and is a fascinating man.
We can set you u with our friends, Shane and Nicole who own Mahahual Dive Center. They can get you out for a great day of diving on the reef.
Our reef 300 meters offshore is awesome with lots of coral, fish, turtles and rays. We often swim out and sometimes we take a kayak. Your choice.
We have a number of very god ruins within an hours drive. Fun day and very interesting.
Catamaran Booze Cruise
We have a catamaran in town that will run south past our beach taking tours south to snorkel. I’ve never been on it but we’ve been out in our catamaran and ran past them a few times. Looks like fun!
Mayan Water Park
Located by the cruise port, the water park has pools and zip lines for a ton of fun.
Beach Road Drive
You can just pack up a cooler of cold bevies and snacks and drive the beach road North or South. There are tons of access ways to get to the water. Fear not, it’s very safe here. Go explore.
Deep Sea Fishing
We could set up a fishing charter for you to go out on. Spend a day trolling up and down the outside of the reef. Lots of barracuda out there. We do this regularly.
Fly fishing Guide
Nick Denbow is a ver close friend of ours. He also happens to be a very gifted fly fishing guide. He will guarantee an epic day. Can you say Super Grand Slam.
Hotel Maya Luna - American/Seafood
200 meters north of us is Hotel Maya Luna. If you don’t want t fix breakfast yourself, wander up the beach and have Carolien and Jan make it for you. For dinner, try their pineapple filled with shrimp. Tasty!
Travel In’ -
Justa and Albert are the owners of Travel In’ which is a kilometre south of us. The have a great little restaurant. My fave is the Hot Pot but that needs advanced notice. They also do a great job of fresh fish and shwarma.
Luna de Plata - Italian
Great Italian food. Their pizza can feed 2 for a few days. So big, they need a second tray.
Tropicante - American/Mexican
Be sure to pop by to meet Steve the owner and tell him you’re our guests. He’ll take good care of you. My fav is the Diablo Shrimp
Nohoch Kay - Mexican
Great little place at the south end of the Malecón. My fav here is the Pescado Especial. It’s a breaded fillet of fish with shrimp and cheese. Tasty!! Tell Betty you’re our guests. You’ll get one of he patented hugs.
Primo’s - Mexican
This is an authentic eatery frequented by the locals. Simple fare but authentic. The make awesome salutes, paunches and tacos. Their menu has everything. Very inexpensive and very good.
Divino’s Downtown- Italian
One of my favs. A little pricier than most but worth it. They cook a fine steak here. Also, if you order the pasta, try the home made ravioli with seafood. It’s to die for.
Blue Reef - American/Mexican
My good friend Jaime owns the Blue Reef. Good food and some of the deadliest margaritas in town.
Julio’s Pollo Asado - BBQ Chicken and Ribs
Located beside Primos, facing the soccer field in town. Look for the big BBQ and smell the chicken. It’s a great take out meal
Divino’s - Italian/Mexican
Best hamburger in Mexico! No trip is complete without having had their Bacon, Avacado and cheese burger. It’s monstrous.
Papi’s Pizza - Italian
Great place for food and live music. I play here a lot so can speak to their full menu. Great atmosphere and decor. A “Must go”
Hermanos Martin - Mexican
This is a food cart that makes crazy good Alambre.
For foodstuffs, the Casitas is your best bet.
Dry goods, canned and packaged goods, sauces, cereals, breads etc.
Frozen meats, canned goods, cheeses, vegetables
Canned goods, juices, good selection of beer and liquor, very friendly service and proper change.
Just across from Primos, is Fernando’s store. Great prices on beer, wine, juices and cigarettes.
Just south of them is a good little store that sells vegetables, canned goods, cold cuts and frozen meats.
Casa Velero is located on 50 meters of magnificent beachfront 2.8 kms south of the edge of Mahahual. Our little town of Mahahual has dozens of incredible restaurants offering Mexican, Italian and Americana based menus. We are happy to help you cut to the chase and suggest the best of the best.
We have bio-reserves in front and behind the property. As such, we are an “organic” development meaning no concrete structures or surfaces. We clean up the cleared areas but leave the jungle all natural so that all of the living creatures, large and small remain as undisturbed as possible. We are privileged guests in their home and we strive to respect them.
