Walkley Wood Cottage is a charming Grade II listed Bath stone property set over 4 floors. With 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, the cottage sleeps 4 (3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children is the most comfortable configuration). Enjoying a peaceful elevated position, Walkley Wood boasts beautiful views of the surrounding valley and neighbouring Cotswold stone properties.
Introduction As you approach Walkley Wood Cottage through the winding lanes of Nailsworth, you will notice how the town and surrounding properties are almost hidden by the secluded woodland valley to the east of Stroud. Proudly perched on the side of sleepy Shortwood Road is Walkley Wood Cottage, a distinguished 19th century property with rustic golden stone that immediately casts a warm and welcoming aura. Ideally situated, this cottage is the perfect base for exploring the tranquillity of the surrounding Stroud Valleys and the wider Cotswolds, while guests are also in easy walking distance of the cheerfully eclectic town of Nailsworth. If you’re looking for somewhere to totally relax and unwind, then Walkley Wood is the perfect Cotswold home for you. As you approach the cottage through the cast iron gate and down the stone steps, you will notice a small outdoor table and chairs set down from the lane behind the dry-stone wall. Guests are welcome to sit outside and enjoy the warmth of the summer months in this compact but delightful sun trap. You may find yourself admiring the beautiful architecture and delicate Georgian windows, this cottage was, after all, built in 1852. Although the exact history of the cottage remains largely a mystery, it has been suggested that the building may have been used as a pub many years ago, which could explain the origins of the kitchen skylight. Either way, it’s nice to consider that many happy memories have been created within these historic walls! Inside, Walkley Wood really is the perfect holiday home. Devoid of fussiness and frill, Karen has struck the perfect balance between homely-cosy comfort and refreshing simplicity. Each floor is brought to life by a sprinkling of quirky vintage features, while guests can simultaneously enjoy a bright and Scandinavian-inspired minimalist feel. The living room is the real heart of the property. A log-burning stove immediately creates a wonderful cosy atmosphere, with soft blankets and cushions scattered over furniture to help guests make themselves feel at home. Just a short walk away is the artistic town of Nailsworth, a gem in the heart of the Cotswold valleys. A largely overlooked town, Nailsworth has a fantastic and unspoiled selection of boutiques, bars, pubs and cafes, and really does offer some of the best food for miles around. There’s also often live music events, so it’s always worth keeping an eye on what’s going on! Full Description Ground Floor Entrance Hall Once you’ve opened the white painted door with antique fox door knocker, you will find yourself in the neatly presented entrance hall of Walkley Wood Cottage. Turn immediately right to enter the… Living Room The living room is the heart of this lovely little cottage. Set on the ground floor, it offers a warm and cosy living space and is the perfect place to kick back and relax after a long day exploring the Cotswolds. Decorated in quality Farrow & Ball paint throughout the cottage, the living room is stylishly understated, with quirky pieces of statement vintage furniture. Relax on the dark green leather sofa under the atmospheric lighting of the many lamps that line the room, and most eye-catchingly of all the gorgeous French brass candle-style wall lamps. If you fancy curling up and watching a film on the TV, then you’ll be spoilt for choice by the large selection of DVDs you’ll find on the in-built shelves, as well as a great selection of books. Lift the lid of the wooden chest/coffee table and you’ll find a superb selection of board games and puzzles – perfect for a rainy day! Of course, the real centre piece of the sitting room is the log burning stove, a real treat for holidaymakers looking for an authentic country-cottage experience. Bask in the warmth of the flickering flames while snuggled under the lovely soft blankets and cushions, kindly provided by Karen to help ensure that you have a homely and comfortable stay! Go down the wooden-topped stairs at the far end of the lounge to the… Kitchen Situated on the lower ground floor, the kitchen is a very well-equipped space for both cooking and dining. Featuring a large fridge/freezer, excellent 5 burner gas hob, electric fan oven, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, Nespresso coffee machine and a vast selection of crockery, dishes and utensils, this compact country kitchen has everything you will need. The beamed ceiling and colourful rug add a touch of character to this simple space. A pine dining table seats four guests comfortably – look out for the drawer on the end of the table – that’s where all the cutlery is kept! Due to the lay-out and nature of this property, the kitchen does not receive a lot of natural light, however at the far end you will find a lovely walk-in alcove with a big skylight. In this area you will find the Panasonic microwave, digital radio, bins and a great selection of mugs and glasses. Go back upstairs, through the lounge, into the entrance hall and… Upstairs to the landing, turn right into the… Bathroom A bright and spacious tiled room offset by the wooden bath panelling and mirror. Featuring a WC, wash basin and bath tub with a fixed overhead shower and usual circular shower curtain. Out of the bathroom and straight into the… Twin bedroom A bright, fresh and simple bedroom, this room contains one single bed and one trundle bed that can be put away. Ideal for two children or single occupancy, this room might be a little too cosy for two adults to share, so please see photographs before making a decision. Guests in this room can enjoy pretty views over the Cotswold valley, as well as a few stylish touches such as the sheepskin rug and ornate cast iron bed frame. Into the hallway and up the next short flight of stairs into the… Master bedroom This fabulous loft-style double bedroom boasts beautiful views from its topmost position in the cottage. With a sumptuous king size bed nestled below the original oak beams of the sloping ceiling, this room is cosy and simple, with some lovely rustic details. Exposed Cotswold stone provides a stunning natural feature wall, while the Victorian chest of drawers and rocking chair are ideal for storage. You will find the hair dryer in a top drawer of the chest. A curtained-off hanging area makes for a unique open-plan wardrobe, ensuring there’s enough space for you to unpack and relax, while the room retains a lovely snug feel. Outside Walkley Wood Cottage enjoys use of the small gravel/paved courtyard at the front of the house. There is a small patio table and two chairs that guests may use for breakfast, lunch or an evening glass of wine if they wish! If you are looking to stretch your legs further, there are plenty of beautiful walks and open fields surrounding Walkley Wood Cottage, just see ‘Walks’ in the Guidebook.
Nailsworth town centre is just a simple 10-15 minute walk from Walkley Wood Cottage, see the map in the ‘Need to Knows’ section. In the town centre you will find a Morrisons open Mon–Sat 7am – 9pm, and Sun 10am-4pm. There is also a small Tesco Express store with a Post Office counter inside, open every day 6am-11pm. A small Cooperative supermarket is also situated in the centre open Mon-Sat 7.30am-10pm and Sun 8am-9pm. Nailsworth is home to a fantastic selection of independent shops, be sure to visit Domestic Science, an eclectic Aladdin’s cave of a shop, and Mother Goose is always a hit with craft and knitting enthusiasts. Ruskin Mill is just a short walk/drive from the centre and offers some lovely walks, crafts and food, while working with a great community initiative. Just 5 miles away lies Stroud, a colourful and characterful town with more great shops, major banks, larger supermarkets, eateries, a VUE cinema complex and plenty of live events, from the annual Stroud Fringe Festival to the Stroud Folk Festival, there’s always something to see in this buzzing market town! You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to pubs and restaurants within walking distance of Walkley Wood. Top of the list are The Britannia, a great central pub, Wild Garlic for exquisite fine dining, Williams Food Hall and Dining for its superb oyster bar and Giuseppe’s, a unique Italian restaurant situated in a cosy loft space. A car is not essential for this area but recommended if you are wanting to explore further afield. Stroud is just 90 minutes from London and Birmingham by train, with Stroud train station just under five miles from the cottage. Hut on the hill is located in a small hamlet on the outskirts of Horsley. It is very peaceful and quiet. A beautiful base for walking, sightseeing or just generally relaxing in the Cotswolds! Our Shepherds Hut sits on top of the hill with outstanding views overlooking the Nailsworth Valley and beyond.
The Shepherds hut sits in the corner of the field over looking our chickens, where you're welcome to collect you're own eggs for breakfast (as long as they have laid some!). From the hut your open to lovely walks of the surrounding areas and only a 15 minute walk to the nearest pub and local shop which sell the famous Horsley Sausages - again great to have with your breakfast. The hut comes with a double electric hob, kettle, toaster and microwave. There is no oven in the hut. We also have an eco fridge which is a cool pot outside the hut big enough to keep the essentials cold for your breakfast. Parking is available for one car within a 10 metre walk from the hut. The hut is fully secured and has an electric heater if the Great British weather doesn't come up trumps for your stay.
The Hut on the Hill on situated near the Cotswold town of Nailsworth, a few miles drive from Stroud (with its famous farmers market) and a short commute to the Cotswold way and other attractions such as Badminton/Gatcombe horse trials, Cirencester and Westonbirt Arboretum. Nailsworth has an abundance of independent coffee shops and quirky treasure troves to pass your time. We have several chickens situated near the Shepherds hut. These are cordoned off by an electric fence (don't worry we don't have a cockerel so you won't be woken by them).

The hayloft is very old but we have converted it into a 2 bed suite (one double bed & one big round bed on the mezzanine) with a 'shed bathroom' and a large lounge. It is on top of part of our own house (above the kitchen) but has a separate private entrance and a door onto the garden. There is no kitchen facility - think hotel rooms rather than self catering! It is right in the heart of the village a couple of hundred metres from good restaurants, ancient pubs and independent shops.
The space is large with high vaulted ceilings and exposed beams - it was originally a farm building - more recently a carpenters workshop. It is just under 1000sq foot. It is above the kitchen in our house but has its own entrance and is completely private with direct access to the garden. The rooms are open plan - one is at the end of a corridor and the other is the mezzanine floor of the lounge room. We have created a 'bathroom shed' to follow the contour of the roof which houses a lovely walk in shower as well as a basin and loo.
Nailsworth is a lovely little town. Lots of independent shops and cafes. WildGarlic, Hobbs House, The Olive Tree, The Canteen, Williams Kitchen. Really near beautiful commons and lots of walking, bike riding opportunities nearby. The Stroud area is also a real hub for the arts and attracts a lot of creative people as well as people interested in natural therapies and alternative lifestyles. Only a few miles from Tetbury and Stroud, 30 minutes to Cheltenham and 45 mins to Bath or Bristol.

Avening Cottage is charming 18th Century Cotswold stone property situated in the heart of Nailsworth, a bustling market town near Stroud. The cottage has been renovated to a high standard and offers all mod cons alongside traditional features. A short walk down the lane takes you into Nailsworth, with its cafes, restaurants, pubs, supermarkets and a wealth of small shops selling everything from clothing to luxury chocolates. There is great walking from the door or within a short drive.
The cottage is cosy and perfect for couples. There are two short flights of stairs connecting the kitchen and bathroom, on the lower floor, with the sitting room above, and the bedroom on the top floor. Please be warned that, because this is an old property, the bedroom is up in the eaves and there is not much headspace or a great deal of room on either side of the bed (see the photo of the bedroom).
Nailsworth is a lovely market town which has a well deserved reputation as a foodie haven. Just a few minutes walk from the cottage are numerous restaurants, bistros and cafes, including Giuseppe's, William's Kitchen (also a fabulous deli), Wild Garlic, The Olive Tree, Nailsworth Balti, Amalfi and Egypt Mill. There are also two pubs, one of which, The Britannia, serves good quality pub food. There are several great cafes, including the Canteen. A visit to Hobbs House Bakery is also essential - run by TV's 'Fabulous Baker Boys' and selling mouthwatering bread, cakes, pastries and biscuits. There are health food shops, clothes shops, art galleries and a rather special confectionary shop called Coco, where the walls are lined with old-fashioned sweets in jars, and you can buy a range of luxury chocolates. If you need supplies, there are three supermarkets (Morrisons, a small Co-op and a Tesco Express, open 6am-11pm seven days a week). Nailsworth is on the A46, so just 45 minutes from Bath, and there are numerous places to visit nearby, from towns like Stroud, Tetbury and Cirencester, to picturesque Cotswold villages like Painswick. The well-known Cotswold centres of Chipping Camden, Stow on the Wold, Moreton in Marsh and Bourton on the Water are within an hour's drive. Nailsworth nestles in one of five valleys leading into Stroud, and there are plenty of good walks, either directly from the door to Ruskin Mill or the Horsley Valley, or a short drive away there is Woodchester Valley (nestled in the heart of which is an unfinished Gothic revival mansion) and the Commons of Minchinhampton, Rodborough and Selsley (all National Trust). There is a local vineyard, Woodchester Valley Vineyard, where tours and tastings can be arranged.

The barn was recently refurbished and sits in 3 acres of fields and gardens. Surrounded by beautiful Cotswolds countryside, this is the perfect location to retreat and unwind. Everything you need for a comfy stay is here including a fabulous wood burner and stack of logs. There's plenty of great walks on your doorstep . Nearest pub is the award-winning, cosy Hog at Horsley with great food and many local beers. From 20th March we will be solar powered.
Sitting in 4 acres of fields and gardens we are very happy for guests to wander around the grounds. Depending on the time of year there will be fresh organic produce from the gardens that can be eaten or cooked etc. If you are bringing a dog, we have a large fully fenced field where they can roam safely.
The local village is very small and has just a primary school, pub and our great community shop selling all the essentials: local vegetables, eggs and the famous Horsley sausage. A 5 minute drive from the barn takes you to the thriving town of Nailsworth and you have everything you could need including Hobbs House Bakery and The Canteen serving brunches and great coffee. There are also larger supermarkets and chemist etc. The Cotswolds towns of Tetbury and Cirencester are just a bit further away. There are plenty of sporting opportunities in the area with racing at Cheltenham, Bath and Chepstow, polo at Cirencester Park and Westonbirt, golf at Minchinhampton, gliding at Aston Down, not to mention the vast array of local walks through the surrounding countryside. If football is your thing we have the world’s most sustainable football club at Forest Green Rovers (National League II).

Shabby Chic meets Cotswold Rural Retreat. This beautiful, secluded barn conversion, is situated at the top of a hill, on a working farm, boasting arguably, some of the best views in the area. The Barn is just within walking distance of the vibrant Cotswold wool town of Nailsworth. Just 20mins from Badminton, 10mins from Gatcombe and around 45mins to Cheltenham, guests can take advantage of stables and grazing on Ringfield Farm, where the Barn is based, catering for all equestrian needs.
With 3 double bedrooms, one with a bunk bed (double bottom, single top), a reception area with two sofas, it is possible to sleep upto 9 adults. A Blow up bed can be provided in the communal area or landing, on request. The bathroom has an over bath shower. The kitchen has a gas cooker with hob, oven and grill, as well as a fridge freezer.
With 84 footpaths available, including particularly notable walks to Woodchester and Coaley Peak, it’s worth packing your walking boots. Tree lovers can make a short drive south to Westonbirt Arboretum, which features 15,000 varieties from as far afield as China, Chile and Japan. Egypt Mill is a restored 16th-century mill-cum-hotel and restaurant. Sitting proudly on the banks of the River Frome as you enter the town, the open-plan restaurant offers a selection of Great British dishes made from seasonal local produce. If the presence of all the surrounding streams gets you hankering after something fishy, make your way to Williams’ Food Hall where head chef Stephen Rawicki serves up everything from freshly shucked oysters to delicious dover sole. These are just two amongst a seemingly endless choice of great quality eateries and restaurants including Wild Garlic, Wilder, Olive Tree and Amalfi. The Passage To India and Chop Suey House offer Asian cuisines and Bens a late night kabab. A 10-minute walk or a short drive towards Stroud is Dunkirk Mill, one of the town’s historic fulling mills that dates back to the 1720s. Visitors can marvel at the power of Victorian industry in action as the fulling stocks clack and a 13ft Overton water wheel plunges and churns into action. The quirky Hobbs House Bakery was set up by Tom and Henry Herbert (TV’s Fabulous Baker Brothers) and features a selection of treats: we recommend the Bakewell tart and the lardy cake. Coffee is served upstairs which doubles as an exhibition space for local artists, and don’t miss the “chandelier” decorated with bread buns. Cafes include the Canteen, and just a short drive towards Cirencester, Jolly Nice, an Organic choice that will amaze. The local football team Forest Green Rovers have recently been promoted into the Football League and are from the smallest town to do so in history. Away fans take note: The Village Inn will organise trips downstairs to see where they brew a range of cask ales in traditional styles, but it’s best to call ahead. Sampling their delicious ale upstairs does not require an appointment, but for those searching for an alternative place to recline, The Britannia is less than a minute round the corner, with the Vault the same distance the opposite way. If you are willing to walk that bit further then George at a Newmarket is a classic country pub and the Tipputs at the top of the A46 towards Bath is worthy of the walk with its selection of beers and great food menu. Every second Saturday of each month the town hosts its on Farmers Market, but if this doesn't fit around your stay, then the local town of Stroud also offers a nationally acclaimed Farmers Market of its own every Saturday. You will also find plenty of places to eat and drink there, its own cinema and the Marshal Rooms offering later night entertainment.

I live in a semi detached dormer bungalow 20 minutes walk from the centre of Stroud, on a bus route and near Rodborough Common. The room is on the ground floor as is the bathroom. I also have a very friendly big fluffy young dog.
My house is in a quiet area of Stroud below Rodborough Common which is an area of outstanding beauty with wonderful views. There are 3 pubs relatively close by - The Old Fleece, The Clothiers Arms, both of which serve food, and the Prince Albert, the nearest, for great free music and a pop up kitchen Thurs - Saturday.

A modern house in a quiet cul-de-sac with stunning views of the beautiful Cotswold countryside. Very good size room with tea/coffee making facilities. Private bathroom. A continental style self service breakfast is provided in the kitchen/diner. Nailsworth centre is a 15 minutes walk. Bus stop is a 4 minutes walk with route into Nailsworth, Stroud which has a mainline train station. Train to London Paddington is just 90 mins. Bristol and Bath are within easy driving distance. Many restaurants.
I am a life long yoga/meditation teacher and can offer private sessions. I am a vegan and I maintain a vegetarian household (with the exception of Chessie, the cat). Chessie is not allowed into bedrooms, bathroom or kitchen, therefore I ask that you keep doors closed please. In the hallway of the main entrance, there is an under stairs space for outdoor shoes.
There are many walks from the house, including into the woodland and down to a lovely country pub, The George. Nearby is Forest Green Rovers , the world's only vegan football club. The famous Woodchester valley with the incomplete mansion and lakes, is a walkable distance. Nailsworth is a lovely little town or a large village with many independent shops, a variety of restaurants and a super market.

We are very mindful of our guests privacy and peace - and are kept busy with pets, kids and various comings and goings and so will stay out of your hair unless you need us!
We live in a lovely timber clad house set in a 3/4 acre walled garden in a beautiful rolling valley running between Nailsworth and Stroud- both great towns to explore with an award winning Farmers market, local brewery (with pizza oven), great arts, pubs, music scene and lots of independant shops and cafe’s. We have direct access to footpaths through a nature reserve behind the house (endangered bush crickets!) up to Amberley village and beautiful Minchinhampton Common with its free ranging cows and ponies, ice cream factory, visiting circus, pubs, golf course, great views and kite flying. Or use the footpath down to the Nailsworth/Stroud cycle path, which in turn leads into the lovely canal tow paths. Great for mountain biking pretty much anywhere; golfing at Minchinhampton; walking & trees at Westonbirt; birds & nature at Slimbridge, horses at Gatcombe & Badminton; culture & shopping at Bath, Cheltenham and Cirencester. Or go large in Bristol! Last, but not least we are within walking distance of the mysterious Woodchester Park; or even up to spooky Hetty Pegler’s Tump....

Retreat to this charming haven of peace on National Trust Minchinhampton Common, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its the perfect place for a cosy getaway for two and a unique base to explore the Cotswolds from, be it local history, browsing antiques or Giffords Circus. Bring your dog and walk to friendly pubs from the door with sunsets over stunning views. Enjoy a delicious locally produced breakfast in the separate artists studio up the garden where the all mod con bathroom is too.
A beautiful, custom-built Shepherds Hut with wood-burner and double-bed with fresh cotton linen, situated in a lovely, private garden. This is glamping at its best - no camp site crowds to deal with, just birdsong and vintage charm. With electric lighting and high-speed broadband it's well-equipped and comfortable. Delicious, locally produced, continental breakfast is supplied in the comfort of the separate studio up the garden, in a help yourself style. It's all very relaxed, a perfect place to plan your day ahead from, over a mug of real coffee, with under floor heating and a pretty garden view. The bathroom here in the studio has a power shower with continuous hot water and large fluffy towels. Enjoy relaxing back in your shepherds hut after a walk on the common, meal at the pub or a trip to Giffords Circus. Wander round local Cotswolds towns for inspiration. The hosts are very happy to give advice and recommendations about the area, but with a separate entrance and sleeping away in the depths of the garden, you have your privacy guaranteed.
We are situated in Pinfarthings, part of Amberley, on the sunny side of the hill above Nailsworth. This is a very quiet neighbourhood, a secret spot, with no through traffic, surrounded by fields, woods and the common but within a stones throw of Nailsworth and then Stroud. The cows roaming wild on the common between May and October sometimes come wandering down our lane. There are owls all around. There are fantastic walks and cycle rides from the door. The area is known for both these. Nailsworth, a small Cotswold town has plenty of interesting craft and gift shops and a variety of restaurants and pubs as well as several small supermarkets. Stroud, ten minutes away by car, is a lively, creative town with a fantastic farmers and craft market on Saturday mornings. It has great bars and pubs and lots of interesting events throughout the year. Giffords Circus is near by, we can help with transport to help make your evening really special. Other places of interest: Tetbury for antiques, also Griffin Mill and Malthouse Antiques in Stroud SVA for art events in Stroud, also Museum in the park, Stroud The Good Shed, The Prince Albert, in Stroud for music The woolpack Inn, Slad, we can't recommend enough, for good up market food, original interior and Laurie Lee associations, plus amazing walks from the door. Stroud Brewery for beer, pizza and music For contemporary art and craft lovers, we have renowned art trails where local artists open their studios for two weekends in May. It is great fun to travel around the area and see stunning works of art in the places they are made and have the chance to buy them. See both Stroud Valley Arts website and SIT SELECT for details. Please note, your host will be opening her studio too! Ask for further information and how this affects the BNB.

This well-appointed, self-catering studio has oven, microwave, washing machine, parking, free Wifi, NETFLIX. Peaceful but steep location, best served for touring with a car, ideal for business travellers & holidaymakers alike. Ideal for exploring Cotswolds or just unwinding.

Toiletries provided and all guests receive complimentary tea, coffee, sugar, milk plus materials for a continental breakfast including bread, butter, croissants, jam. marmalade, fruit juice, choice of cereal, porridge, eggs and fruit. The single track road, flanked by limestone walls, is a reflection of a bye-gone age when sites such as Woodchester were chosen for their natural springs. The hillside location yields a panoramic vista, reflecting the richness contained within this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, that forms the southern flank of the Cotswolds.
Explore the Cotswolds by car, sampling afternoon tea at the Kitchen in Minchinhampton or take a picnic to Coaley Peak and stretch your eyes across the outstanding panoramic vista across the River Severn. Drive on to the hidden Woodchester Mansion and then delight your taste buds with an authentic stone baked pizza at Thistledown Cafe perched alone in the wilderness at Nymphsfield. Drive to the historic town of Tetbury and then on to explore Westonbirt Arboretum, stunning in any season. Drive into Stroud on Saturday morning for the famous Farmers Market. If you are keen to ramble, then less than 2 minutes walk away you can take your pick of several lovely footpaths to ramble along. Head up the steep hill and travel west to explore the wooded hillside above and emerge on Selsley common, with its magnificent panoramic views down across the River Severn, flanked in a dramatic backdrop by the Welsh hills. Walk on down hill to Dudbridge and pick up the old railway/cycle track and circle back to South Woodchester. Stroll east down the hill and find the local hostelry, the Ram Inn or walk a little further to Rooksmoor and sample the fine menus at The Old Fleece. Trek along the footpath at the bottom of the hill to North Woodchester, emerging at the village church. Walk on through the village and turn right for the local village shop, run entirely by kindly, welcoming volunteers, or refresh yourself at the Royal Oak. Continue on just a short way from the shop and you will discover the "Old Church" with its legendary Woodchester Pavement (no longer on display) but hidden in the churchyard on the footprint of a fantastic Roman Villa, sited on a flat outcrop where several natural springs emerge. Take a longer stroll southward along the Cycle Track, a remnant of the old "Dudbridge Donkey" railway, dedicated to walkers and cyclists. This will bring you out in the small town of Nailsworth, where a trip to Hobbs' Bakery is not to be missed, or wallow in the high quality food fayre of William's Kitchen. Details and maps of all these lovely outings including walks, are available to you in a folder in your apartment.

Escape the high street and lose yourself in village lanes full to bursting with quirky and independent shops, restaurants and farmers markets or soak up the amazing atmosphere of one of our many festivals and events. Don’t be put off by our lack of coastline either! We have 40 miles of lakes in the Cotswold Water Park and numerous gently winding streams, canals and waterways criss-crossing the picturesque towns and villages. On the door step: WOODCHESTER PARK - the secret valley: Nestled in the Cotswolds, the secluded valley of Woodchester Park is home to the remains of an 18th- and 19th-century landscape park, a Victorian mansion, a chain of five lakes fringed by woodland and pasture, and an abundance of wildlife. The 19th Century Victorian Gothic Masterpiece was abandoned in mid-construction in 1873. The carvings in Woodchester Mansion are among the finest of their kind in the world. 3 mins drive / 30 mins walk: NAILSWORTH: The artistic, market town of Nailsworth is nestled in a wooded valley in the south Cotswolds. It draws celebrities and foodies through its doors to dine on fresh seafood and local produce. 5 mins drive: MINCHINHAMPTON The delightful, small market town of Minchinhampton sits on the edge of Minchinhampton Common. It's made up of pretty stone cottages, many dating back to the 17th century and medieval wool trade. There is a weekly country market and a good choice of cafes. Minchinhampton was chosen as a scenic location for the recent BBC TV adaptation of J K Rowling’s Casual Vacancy. There are breathtaking panoramic views of the Stroud Valleys from Minchinhampton Common, which sits on the Cotswold escarpment. It is an important archaeological landscape and managed by the National Trust. Rare orchids and butterflies can be spotted along with freely roaming horses and cattle. Please drive carefully over the common and keep an eye out for (URL HIDDEN) of the most famous residents is the Princess Royal who lives at Gatcombe Park on the edge of town. Independent boutique shops sit alongside restaurants that feature in the Michelin Guides. Tetbury attracts everyone from Royalty (Prince Charles and his sons' home, Highgrove, sits less than a mile away) to English countryside lovers, antique-finders, foodies and real ale connoisseurs. 8 min drive: STROUD: In the opposite direction and you will find yourself in the market town of Stroud - Situated below the western escarpment of the Cotswold Hills at the meeting point of the Five Valleys, the town is noted for its steep streets, independent spirit and cafe culture. The Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty surrounds the town, and the Cotswold Way path passes by it to the west. The award winning saturday farmers market IS A MUST! 25 min drive: BIBURY & ARLINGTON Bibury is a charming, typically Cotswold village just a short drive from Cirencester. It’s easy to see why William Morris called Bibury ‘The most beautiful village in England’ – wonderful stone buildings strung out along the banks of the River Coln. Arlington Row, owned by the National Trust, is one of England’s most iconic and photographed sites – it even appears on the inside cover of UK passports! Originally built in the 14th century as a monastic wool store, it was converted in the 17th century into a row of weavers’ cottages. The cottages are now lived in by National Trust tenants, with no public access to the cottages or gardens, although one of them can be rented out as a holiday cottage. The River Coln flows through Bibury sandwiched between the main village street and an expanse of boggy water meadow known as Rack Isle, so called because wool was once hung out to dry there on racks after it had been washed in Arlington Row. With Arlington Row as a backdrop, it makes one of the most picturesque scenes you will find in the Cotswolds. 30 min drive:CHELTENHAM SPA 45 min drive: BATH SPA

This is a 1750's cottage on a country lane in an extraordinary location, 20 minute walk to the small town of Nailsworth, and a pastoral walk through the abundant waters & garden valley leading to Ruskin Mill Centre & Cafe (best homemade food around!)
This is a 3-storey cottage, with an overview from kitchen and sitting room of tall trees and luscious green hillside The close proximity of Ruskin Mill Trust (see below) puts us in the heart of all that inspired the vision for young lives, land and waterways.
For instance(!) I pop into the village health shop on my birthday and they donate me fresh cream to celebrate, I return to the cottage and someone else has left the corresponding perfect apple pie. In short, heartfelt neighbours living their joy, painting, making music, planting veggies & flowers, circle singing and dancing and rambling walks. Ruskin Mill Trust has transformed this Valley over the course of nearly 50 years. It is a truly delightful and beneficial presence in this Community. My now-grown children were inspired by Ruskin Mill classes as part of their core curriculum in college (and Alisdair, one of the founder's sons -see below- was their college principal!). A little history - "The seeds of Ruskin Mill (Educational) Trust were sown in 1967, when Robin and Barbara Gordon transplanted their young sons Aonghus and Alasdair from the hothouse of the Ruskin Centre for Art Appreciation in Venice to the cold-frame of a dilapidated former textile mill in Gloucestershire. They had fallen into fertile soil. Within the steep, wooded valleys of the Severn escarpment, a thousand years of the wool trade had bequeathed Horsley and Nailsworth a built environment of exceptional quality, a pioneering spirit and a keen pride in design and craftsmanship. Over the next fifteen years, they were energised by the inspirations of three men whose visions had helped shape the lives of the Gordon family: Rudolf Steiner, John Ruskin and William Morris. By 1984, they had germinated into the Ruskin Mill Centre for Arts and Cultural Regeneration. In that year, pupils from nearby Cotswold Chine Special School helped restore the mill's water-wheel. The next year, two more joined what was soon to become the Living Earth Training Course. The Living Earth Course combined biodynamic agriculture in a market garden with the craft curriculum sourced from the Arts and Crafts movement, the insights into human development provided by Rudolf Steiner and a commitment to responsible stewardship of the land for future generations. This curriculum, the so-called Descent into Matter, accessed the four elements of Earth, Water, Air and Fire through the three Kingdoms of Nature: - Animal - leatherwork, felt-making and weaving - Plant - basketry, carving and green woodwork - Mineral - pottery, stone carving, stained glass and metalwork Students boarded with local families, and received additional support through anthroposophic medicine and associated therapies. Crucially, students were constantly immersed in the commercial activities of the Mill: the small craft workshops, cafe and other retail outlets. This braiding of practical education, home-making, commerce and environmental awareness gave them the unique therapeutic experience of transforming their environment into useful commodities, for exchange within the market economy. This vision has remained at the heart of the Trust's work ever since." Ruskin Mill Trust says: "This is how we want our world to be: Each individual experiences meaningful relationships with universe, earth and people and has the potential to shape their own future."
