“Dating from the early Showa period in the 1920s, this Japanese building shows signs of influence from Western architecture. Inside, the spacious exhibition hall seems to stretch on endlessly, whetting one’s appetite for its treasures. The displays have a distinctive Showa flavor—a glimpse into an interesting era of Japan’s development. Right after opening or before closing, there are fewer people, so you can have a relaxing tour. At those times, it’s quiet enough to hear the wooden floor creak under your feet, which adds to the retro ambience.”

“To start with, get yourself to Yotsuya Sanchome Station, head out of Exit 2 and walk into the Yotsuya Fire Museum, which is free of charge. You just have to pick up a visitor pass at the reception and return it at the end. We recommend taking the elevator to the top and then working your way down. For a free museum, this place is pretty great. The main attraction is a helicopter on the roof, which you can SIT IN! The place is a lot of fun for adults kids, as there are interactive exhibits—things you can pick up, buttons you can press, that sort of stuff. There’s also an anime corner where you can watch several cartoons that have something to do with fire safety, but are actually a lot better”

Visitors can see Okamoto's studios and a garden of sculpture featuring his very distinctive creations. (See photo of sculpture below.) Taro Okamoto Memorial Museum is accessible from the Aoyama 5 intersection of Route 246. Head down Kottoh-dori Avenue and at the third set of traffic lights turn left then first right.”
