Route 55 across the Sognefjell mountain area between Luster and Lom is the highest and most impressive mountain pass in Northern Europe (highest point 1430 meters), and it has been awarded the status of National Tourist Route because of the spectacular and wild mountain scenery it passes through in the Jotunheimen National Park. This route is the main gateway to the Jotunheimen National Park - Norway’s highest mountains.

•The Narøyfjord is a branch of the large Sognefjord, and it is featured on the "Norway in a Nutshell" day trips for tourists. The 11 mi long fjord is only 1,600 ft wide in some parts. Since 2005, the Nærøyfjord has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has also been rated by the National Geographic Society as the world's number one natural heritage site along with the Geirangerfjord.

If you want to go for a longer hike, the Vindhellaveien takes you by Borgund stave church, whilst Kongeveien (The King’s Road) crosses the Filefjell Mountains.

The King’s Road- Take the bus to the Kyrkjestølen mountainfarm at Filefjell on the E16 approx. 65 km from the centre of Lærdal. This was the first passable road over Filefjell mountain pass, built in the 1790's by C.J.Hammer. There is a lovely view of the surrounding mountains, and the highest point is about 1250 m. above sealevel. The walk takes about 4 - 5 hours each way. You can return by buss from Maristova to the Centre of Lærdal.
