There is the 3rd tallest national monument, there are old and new commercial business to cater to your every whim. The food is awesome from burgers and lighter fare to lobster and the best wines. After labor Day and once students are back to school, some places are closed during the week so make sure you check with your favorite venue when you are visiting off season. That said, September is often called the most beautiful month to visit because every thing is still open and the weather is still awesome. If big crowds is what you seek, between late June and the first weeks of august on weekends will satisfy your desire for big crowds.

It's free! There are glacial grooves, the remnants of the historic Victory Hotel from the Guilded Age of America. Sit and have a picnic or just enjoy the incredible view away from the hustle and bustle of downtown.

Its the "other" state park that not all tourists know about. You can see the entire harbor and enjoy a nice quiet and peaceful sit for a while.

Its a long trip from downtown but will be a scenic golf cart drive and a really cool place to see if you are looking for free things to do. Tours available as well- very close to where the Miller Ferry brings you to the island.

Golf carts are the way to get around on the island
I know it sounds like a pitch to rent a cart from us but it really is the best way to see the island. There are usually so many of them on the road, a car or truck is more difficult to maneuver and certainly more difficult to find a parking space.

Busiest times of year are 3rd week in June through 2nd week of August. Weekends can get busy early weather depending, so calling ahead is good advice.
LODGING- Definitely yes.
GOLF CART- Definitely yes.
BOAT RENTAL, JET SKI/KAYAK RENTAL, FISHING CHARTERS- Usually yes. On weekends especially
RESTAURANTS- Usually no. Most places you can get in almost anytime without too much of a wait.
Your favorite bar or entertainment spot- They won't take reservations so just arrive early.
