The Ancient Agora is where democracy first began and this is well explained in the information boards and in the Agora museum. There are marvelous plans and drawings and information that give you a real sense of what this must have all been like in ancient times. It is also nowhere near as busy as the Acropolis and is part of the joint ticket.

A beautiful ,peaceful place to visit - the main cemetery in Athens in ancient times and it is very easy to get a picture of its one time significance from the extensive ruins visitable here. There is a lovely little museum within the complex with lots of artifacts found in the excavations of the site, most notably the Marble Bull exhibited in the central courtyard. There are statues brought in from outside for preservation, grave markers, coins and ceramics. The real joy of this place though is just wandering around enjoying the serenity. There are marble altars, remnants of the city walls, the ruins of the old Dipylon entrance gate into Athens and most memorable, the warriors tombs.

I think there is no way that anyone can miss this.nice stone paths with old buildings and architecture. If you like crowded small old very live districts, plaka is one. Nice for evening walk and to relax and enjoy. you may have acropolis view in some cafes. Lots of resturants and shops.

To your right, as you walk up the stairs is the Temple to Athena Nike (victory) and to your left is the Erectus with is famous pillars. Views from the Acropolis are magnificent. Get here early - 8:00 and you will avoid the crowds.
The view of the Theater of Dionysus from the Acropolis is very nice, you can see it in a high angle. Have a break in here and enjoy this view!

While the monument on the top is not really worth the way up this hill, the view on the city and on the Acropolis definitely is. you also see to Piraeus and the seaside, actually all around in a 360° panorama. it will take you some 15 to 20 minutes to get up. make it in the late afternoon, when the light is the nicest.

It's not the most beautiful beach, but as a city beach it works very well. It's about half hour from Athens Centre and easy to access via the tram or bus.
Vouiagmeni is one of the best-organized beaches offering all types of beach facilities, it has an admission cost. Vouliagmeni Beach cost less during the week (Adults 4 Euros) this includes an umbrella and chase lounge. The Beach is clean, has a large expanse of water that children can wade in - note if you need to cross Poseidonos Avenue there is a pedestrian tunnel that goes under the road to the other side that is dotted with trendy cafes, bakeries and coffee shops. But well worth a day spent at well kept beaches and really lovely cafes!

The average age is 50+ with families and everyone is enjoying the healthy spa scene and peace. The menu is comprehensive and food of good quality.
Well worth chilling here versus yet another day on a beach somewhere.

The beach is well-protected from the strong winds due to the two rocky islands that block them. There are some umbrellas, sundecks and beach bars in Porto Rafti, where the young crowds gather. There is plenty of parking space but during the weekends there is serious traffic on the way there. The surrounding area offers plenty of cafeterias, night bars and excellent taverns.

The Dora Strata organization, a non profit committed to collecting Greek folk dances and costumes as well as giving lessons, featured numerous varieties of folk dances which have been garnered from a stunning variety of locations: not only mainland Greece and the islands but also Asia Minor and the Black Sea. The costuming is just stunning and so varied.

The Dora Stratou dance Theatre
If you have any interest in traditional folk dancing, this evening is well worth the time and effort. The Dora Strata organization, a non profit committed to collecting Greek folk dances and costumes as well as giving lessons, featured numerous varieties of folk dances which have been garnered from a stunning variety of locations: not only mainland Greece and the islands but also Asia Minor and the Black Sea. The costuming is just stunning and so varied.
This Museum is not another dull archeologique museum! It is a great way to understand the history of the acropolis through the centuries and to get a glimpse of how the acropolis was ment and looked like.
To recommend for everyone!
It has also a nice Café/Restaurant that can be visited even if you do not want to go to the museum.

The night I visited, there was an amazing lightning storm over the Acropolis! Such a great way to end a busy day of exploring Athens.

Now, as far for Thission open air cinema, the only I've to say/repeat is that it has been rated as the best open air Cinema in the world!! ...And I can verify that it is true. Imagine that you seat in open air, in a marvelous setting, watching a movie with your snack and drinks and above all, having view to the lit Acropolis!

At roughly a kilometer long, Ermou Street might not be the most glamorous address in Athens but it seems to be a good place for friends, couples or families to stroll or hang out. The eastern end is almost an extension of Syntagma Square, and at least for several hundred meters, is an interesting mix of retail outlets (including good shoe shops and some well-known brands), coffee shops and some restaurants, and the occasional street snacks and entertainment. Head far enough west, and the retail options peter out, and the neighborhood appear much humbler. However, much as Ermou Street is geared towards retail therapy, the Church of Panagia Kapnikarea, located right in the middle of the street
