Harlingen, with a population of 73,000 is big enough to get lost in yet still retains that "small town" feeling. Located midway between Brownsville, TX and McAllen Texas (the two biggest cities in the area know as the Rio Grande Valley pop. over 1.3 million) it is the ideal point for your temp home during your
assignment. Here you will find most of the the chain restaurants you are used to as well as shopping you'd expect in any sized city. The Iwo Jima Memorial and Museum is also here near the airport and a great place to visit. Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants dominate the restaurant scene but you can find other popular types of food here as well. Local pubs are plentiful as well as a bowling alley, but you'll have to travel to McAllen or Brownsville if you are looking for big night clubs for dancing.

The park is open seven days a week from 6 AM to 10 PM.
