I just love The Potting Shed. I love the style of it, the pretty garden and the food ! It is delicious. It is a beautiful 20 minute walk away in the village of Hyde across the common at the back of us 95% all off road through the New Forest. Dogs are allowed. They also do supper nights and tapas evenings (need to book). Check their website for details or social media. So lucky to have this in our doorstep.

Quintessential English country pub. Very peaceful outdoor space. A lovely 20 minute walk away. Closed Mondays (and sometimes Tuesdays - please phone and check to avoid disappointment).

A really nice 30/40 minute walk from us through the New Forest by heading out across the common at the back of us. This pub is in an hamlet called ‘Frogham’ and often has Donkeys hanging around outside it. Really nice country chic interior. Good pub grub.

The original ‘Pig’ which lead the way for its sister ‘Pigs’. If you want to go for a meal somewhere really special then take a scenic drive from us over to Brockenhurst all through the New Forest to The Pig which was featured on BBC2’s Remarkable Places. The building, interior and gardens are beautiful so I’d advise arriving in daylight and have plenty of time there to relax. All the food on the menu is sourced from within 25 miles and the vegetables are grown in the walled kitchen garden.

If you want to go for a meal somewhere really special then take a scenic drive from us over to Brockenhurst all through the New Forest to The Pig which was featured on BBC2’s Remarkable Places. Beautiful Hotel/restaurant in a beautiful spot on the coast. Worth going just for a drink and a lovely walk. Get the little car ferry from Sandbanks over to Studland which takes about 5 minutes.

I know! Another local pub called The Royal Oak but this one is in Fritham. This tiny quirky little pub Featured on BBC2’s Remarkable places. From our place it’s a stunning bike ride deep through the heart of the New Forest along gravel tracks which take you through stunning enclosures. It would probably take an hour to an hour and a half if you ride straight there. If you stop and enjoy some of the peace and quiet and scenery then allow longer. But of course, you can also drive!

The Railway Hotel used to be a pub called The Augustus John and has recently undergone a huge renovation by the new owner to transform it back to resemble what it was in a previous life - Fordingbridge’s railway station!

A bustly little market town. We really like Lymington. It has the best of both worlds - the new forest on the doorstep and a marina. From Lymington you can get a ferry (45 min crossing) over to the Isle of Wight.

Lyndhurst
Park up at the Priory Car park ideally. From here you can walk through the grounds of the Priory into town. From the car park you can also head in the opposite direction and walk to Christchurch Quay where you can walk along the waters edge to the Captains Club Hotel for a drink and/or a meal. The Boathouse cafe/restaurant on the green at the quay is also good.
From Christchurch Quay you can also jump on a lovely little boat and be taken down river (approx. a 20 minute ride) to Mudeford Sandspit which is a lovely beach hut lined beach where you can chill for a few hours or walk to Hengitsbury Head or get another ferry (5mins) over to Mudeford Quay. (See details on Mudeford Quay and Hengitsbury Head). One of our favourite things to do. Especially when our boys were little!

Christchurch
Park up at the Priory Car park ideally. From here you can walk through the grounds of the Priory into town. Mudeford QuayOne of my favourite places! After exploring the quay you can have a short stroll along Avon Beach to the ‘Noisy Lobster’ cafe. You could walk all the way along to Highcliffe Castle! Or from the quay jump on board the little foot ferry and take the 5 minute crossing over to Mudeford Sandspit which is a gorgeous sandy beach lined with lovely beach huts and there’s some quirky eating/drinking places over there too.
A must visit. Dogs welcome. One of our favourite days out. Now if you’ve read the details about Mudeford Quay then you know that you can get a ferry from there over to Mudeford Sandspit. Well, the Sandspit also connects up to Hengitsbury Head!! Alternatively you can do it the other way around and drive to Hengitsbury Head (approx a 30 min drive depending on traffic) where you’ll find a huge car park and The Hungry Hiker cafe. You can then get to the Mudeford Sandspit one of 4 ways:
1. Jump on the land train
2. Walk on the tarmac path under the trees along the waters edge (same route as land train)
3. Walk around to the Sandspit long Hengitsbury Head beach
4. Walk up and over the headland to the Sandspit
You can then also get the ferry from the Sandspit over to Mudeford Quay if you want to.
There is also a little ferry that goes from the same pontoon on the Sandspit and takes you to the town of Christchurch across the harbour and then up the river.

A must visit. Dogs welcome. One of our favourite days out. Now if you’ve read the details about Mudeford Quay then you know that you can get a ferry from there over to Mudeford Sandspit. Well, the Sandspit also connects up to Hengitsbury Head!! Alternatively you can do it the other way around and drive to Hengitsbury Head (approx a 30 min drive depending on traffic) where you’ll find a huge car park and The Hungry Hiker cafe.
