Food Scene

Five minutes walk form the apartment there is the world wide famous coffee/dinner place in an amassing eclectic Italian Renaissance-styled interior. At the turn of the 20th century the New York Café (New York Kávéház) was the most beautiful and the most beloved coffee house in Budapest. It was a popular place among writers and editors, in fact, the most influential newspapers were edited here, upstairs in the gallery. After World War II, the once famous café fell into disrepair and it served as a sporting goods shop. Although the café reopened in 1954, under the name of Hungária, it wasn't until 2006 that the New York Café was restored to its original splendor. http://www.newyorkcafe.hu/

Favorite bakery and pastry shop on the Pest side on the corner of Szövetség and Barát str. The pre-war milieu and the kind service is just an extra over the good quality cakes (ask for "pogácsa" or "pozsonyi kifli") and fine coffee. The small sized homely place is ideal for having a day starter breakfast and meeting the local people. open: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 7am to 7pm

One of the first artsy-fartsy pub and restaurant that could follow the changes and become a nice breakfast and lunch place with fresh and healthy food and high quality service style (in English too). The location, Rákóczy tér has developed from a night-maffia zone to one of the most frequented tourist spot with its old market place building.

The nicely renovated Art Deco coffee house is worth to see if one likes this style and the pre-war designs. Service and food is with high standards for high prices. The neighborhood has similar styled apartment buildings, design shops and a small green park as well. FB: https://www.facebook.com/dunapark1938/

Coffee, lunch and dinner place at the bottom of Buda Castle. The interior and the food are both designed with a lot of style and artistic touch. A good termination point after a long walking tour in the Castle where the dinner is served with live manouche jazz or Djs or gipsy music. Sunday Brunch Parties are from 4 PM. Open: mo-thu 07:30 - 00:00 / friday 07:30 - 01:00 / saturday 09:00 - 01:00 / sunday 09:00 - 00:00 web: http://bistroderyne.com/?lang=en

A very romantic milieu where good lunch is available or a nice glass of wine in the garden or in the indoor restaurant. The building is functioning as The House of Architects and it was built in 1877 for Count Almássy Kálmán. http://epiteszpince.hu/

It is worth trying the Hungarian jewish kitchen. One of the best home made "sólet" is served here. The place is a small, family directed restaurant where guests are well taken care. https://www.tripadvisor.co.nz/ShowUserReviews-g274887-d1233645-r389148485-Fulemule_Etterem-Budapest_Central_Hungary.html

Sightseeing

The Rózsák (“Roses”) Square has a beautiful building, the St Elizabeth Church (1893–1901). It was the last work of the famous Hungarian architect Imre Steindl who was the designer of Budapest Parliament. Today, it is one of the finest ecclesiastical buildings of Budapest and the sacral pair of the Parliament, as its French Gothic style. The rose windows and stained glass praise were also designed by the architect. Mass is held every day of the week, and on Saturdays, the space in front of the church gives place to a farmers’ market.

If you are walking in the city centre you should drop by to see the nice Károlyi kert, a small park hidden in the busy city life and drink a wine or a café in the small teras of the CSENDES café (means "quiet") The surrounding small streets (Magyar and Frenczy) has also very nice "vintage" buildings, shops and galleries. And high quality culture is also available in the Petőfi Literary Museum which is located just next to the small park. Entrance is form the Károlyi street.
