Food Scene
This is one of Silverthorne's own that offers great coffee, tea and pastries; on most Saturday mornings, they feature a live band to entertain those who are relaxing, working on a laptop or reading the newspaper. You can also enjoy your java out back at a table on the patio or while dipping your toes in the Blue River.

(Note: Advance reservations highly recommended) - Sauce on the Blue is a true favorite of ours! It has a great happy hour from 3:00 to 5:30PM daily; the owners go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable; the bar area is always full of lively conversation and a casual crowd. The restaurant is a 10-15 minute walk (5-minute drive) from the house and is a great prequel to a Dillon Theater Company production. The theater is a 2-minute walk North across the parking lot from the restaurant.

This breakfast and lunch spot will not disappoint. Do you like breakfast burritos? Designer sandwiches? Cakes, pastries and other baked goods? Everything we've ordered here is excellent and reasonably priced! You can grab a cup of coffee and nibble on free bakery samples while waiting for a take-out order or for a table indoors or out.

This Café has been Glenn's favorite breakfast spot for a couple of decades. He recommends the Denver Omelet and Duane's Garbage Plate.....and pretty much anything else since everything is good. After a cozy breakfast, cross the street and take a walk on the Lake Dillon beach to plan and get revved for the day.

This restaurant is located in a strip mall, but once you're inside, it is a modern, clean and comfortable place to dine in or take out. We've only had the empanadas and all are great! There are 12 types to choose from. We have four favorites: mushroom, caprese, spicy chicken and chorizo. Grab some empanadas for apres ski, or buy some to eat the next day for lunch on the ski slopes or during hiking/snowshoeing.

(***Note: Pricey; we recommend reserving in advance of your vacation***) This restaurant offers fine dining at a historic lodge that was both an 1860s stagecoach stop, and later, Colorado's first ski lodge. Ski Tip offers a 4-course dinner and food/wine pairings. You will be escorted to the fireplace room for dessert and coffee and can linger as long as you wish. Be sure to ask for a tour of the lodge rooms and take the time to browse the walls for historic photos and artifacts. Not recommended for families with small kids unless you really like to spend money.

Tired and hungry and don't want to dine out or cook? Call, walk in or order online to have pizzas made according to your taste. A 5-minute drive from the house, you can send a runner to pick up the pizzas and stick them in a pre-heated oven when you're ready to eat.

This is a new brewery in Silverthorne that is tucked away on a side street near the Lowe's. In addition to great brews, it has an attractive and relaxing atmosphere that is not "angry" at all! Grab a chair around a large open-air firepit. Enjoy Trivia Night on Thursdays and live music by local artists 5-7PM Wednesdays and happy hours with discounts on pints. Cultivate Kitchen features "off beet local eats" including original salads, sliders and other specials to complement your brew.

Parks & Nature
Check out some hikes, snowshoe and cross country ski trails that we highly recommend.
About a 30-minute drive from the house, this is truly one of our favorites. Summer features countless Columbines and other stunning wildflowers, a gushing waterfall and occasional playful beavers swimming in the lake. The hike is a 2.3-mile family-friendly loop that takes the average-ability hiker about 1 to 1.5 hours to complete. You can also canoe, kayak and fish on this lake. We do not recommend this for winter due to road conditions.

This is a 5-minute drive from the house. From Hummingbird Circle, turn left and drive up the mountain/road until you see a parking lot for Ptarmigan Trail on the right. The first 20-30 minutes comprises a steep ascent, which then levels off to a flat and rolling trail that goes for a total of about 4 miles. Great for families, couples, individuals or larger groups. Hike as long as you wish--turn around at the bench (2.2 mile mark) or hike the entire trail and take in the views at the top of a scenic ridge. Features stunning views of Lake Dillon, Buffalo Mountain and the Gore Range. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/colorado/ptarmigan-trail

If you're interested in touring a ghost town/old mining camp, this is your hike. Take a 2-mile gradual ascent on an old mining trail to reach the Boston Mining camp. The structures are backed by stark but beautiful jagged peaks. As you near the camp, the road bifurcates--the left road takes you to Boston Mining Camp, the right road leads to Gold Hill and Kokomo.
