Lovćen is located just a short drive from Boka Skyline Apartment (22km). To appreciate the true freedom of the national park it’s best to use your own transport. The hairpin road is part of the excitement and it is truly inspiring (and maybe challenging) and full of views that visitors should not miss out on. However there are private tour in to the national park. Lovćen National Park is an adventure park for the old and young with some activities only for the adrenaline junkies, quad biking and zip-lining are just two examples. Hiking and cycling are also on offer for the less adventurous among us. Also during the winter months there are a couple of (junior) ski slopes. Never mind which activity you wish to take part in the views are spectacular over the Bays and towards Dubrovnik especially at night. Of cause you will also find some fine dinning places to have that traditional lamb sač and cool beer.

Mumula is a Austro-Hungarian fort on the island of Lastavica located between Prevlaka and Lustica peninsula in the entrance to Boka Bay. Mamula has an interesting past built as a fortress in 1843 by Austro-Hungarian general Lazarus von Mamula. During the 2nd World War it was used as a concentration camp and was known for torture and cruelty to prisoners. Most of the camp's prisoners came from the neighbouring area. In early January 2016 the government of Montenegro, over the objections of those who were once imprisoned on the island, approved a plan to convert the site into a luxury beach resort. Note we can arrange boat trips to the island.

The Blue Cave is the largest of many sea caves on Lustica peninsular between Zlatna luka and Cape Mokra gora. It is named after the unusual blue colour of the water because the way the light hits the sandy bottom and reflects up through the water makes the whole cave look blue. It’s very beautiful and it’s a lucky quirk because almost all of the coast here is rocky, not sandy. You can see the blue light shining out of the cave when you approach, but to really see it you’ve got to go inside and get underwater. The water is a few degrees warmer than outside of the cave. Don’t forget your snorkel or goggles when you come here! Note we can arrange a boat trip to the Blue Cave

Plavi Horizonti beach is situated in a beautiful natural cove and is part sand, part small pebbles. It is one of the few true sandy beaches in the region. It is an ideal beach because the water is completely flat and calm it is shallow for a long way out, gradually deepening very slowly, so good for young children. Once you’re in the sea, it’s soft sand underfoot and beautiful clear water. If you ventured off over to the right towards the rocks at the edge of the cove, the water deepened and there were tons of colourful fish swimming around so don't forget your snorkels and face masks. There’s a bar / restaurant there and shaded wooded area if you need to cool off. Parking is a short walk through the pine trees. We love the walks in the shade of the trees on the paths surounding the bay. There is a beautiful walk to Bigova.

Black Lake lies at the foot of Međed Peak in Durmitor Natioanl Park, the lake consists of two smaller lakes: Big Lake (Veliko jezero) and Little Lake (Malo jezero). The lakes are connected by a narrow strait that dries up during the summer, creating two separate bodies of water. The Lake is filled by numerous mountain streams, the best known being Mlin Creek. Other streams have no name because they appear periodically, when snow from Mount Durmitor is melting. Black Lake is the premium tourist attraction of the Durmitor area. At Žanjic you will find a large white beach of pebbles 300m long by about 15m wide, where you will have a view of the open Adriatic sea, Mamula Island the peninsula of Prevlaka and the small island “Lady of Žanjic”. Its a short walk to the fort of Arza. I like Zanjic and near by Mirista because you can find different types of restaurants here from the upmarket Ribarsko Selo to the pizza and ice cream parlours. Note Žanjic is very popular with day trippers from Herceg Novi and sometimes gets very crowed. Note Ribarsko Selo has no prices on their menu so beware. Note the restaurant in Mirista is very nice
Mirista Beach is a cove, a bit smaller than and right next to Zanjice Beach. There's an excellent restaurant right on the waterfront that serves classic Montenegrin seafood and meat dishes. At the tip of Miriste you'll find Arza fortress, built in a circular shape for defence purposes. It is one of two Austro-hungarian fortresses that protected the entrance to the Bay of Kotor. Although the fortress is now out of use and you can't get in, it's an interesting spot and if you're looking to get away from the crowds, you can head over here and find rock pools and more secluded spots.

The restaurant-pizzeria "Big Ben" is near Porto Montenegro and has two large terraces looking over the bay. Over time, it has progressed from humbel beginings to serious catering. It has become synonymous with quality, fast and friendly service. I love the great pulled burgers, and beef steak. Very popular so get there early.

If you're visiting the capital "Podgorica" this is a must restaurant. One of my favourits. Its Montenegros version of the Niagara falls, inside and outside. I really liked being able to sit by the water, have a beer and a pizza or have one of the other dishes. The waiters are also relaxed and chilled, whilst still being attentive and courteous. Prices are pretty good. Most of the tables are shaded by the overhanging trees, which is exactly what you want when looking for respite from the summer heat. The falls are in full flow in spring with the snow melt of the nearby mountains.

Bar sat at the foot at Mount Rumija, Stari Bar is a major attraction in its own right. An earthquake in 1979 severely damaged the settlement. Every corner offers something different, from old houses and shops to ruined streets and spots now overrun by nature. King Nikola’s Palace is arguably the main cultural attraction in Bar, this elegant Palace was built in 1885 for King Nikola. The palace now houses a museum full of folk costumes and other authentic historical items. The dominant piece of architecture in the city is the imposing Church of St. Jovan Vladimir. A short drive from the city centre sits the beloved Stara Maslina, one of the oldest trees on the entire planet. This olive tree has been here for well over two millennia.

Cetinje was founded in the 15th century and became the centre of the Montenegrin culture. It officially became the capital of an independent Montenegro in 1878. Every block has something to see – and old royal palace, a grand embassy building, an intricately-designed church. The most important of the sights in Cetinje is the Cetinje Monastery, also known as the Monastery of Saint Peter which was built in 1484. It’s one of Montenegro’s most significant sites and holds the relics of one of Montenegro’s great historical rulers, St Peter of Cetinje.

Bar to Belgrade

It might seem unusual to recommend leaving a town as one of the main attractions, but then not every part of the world has a train route as magnificent as the one that runs from Bar all the way to Belgrade. The 11-hour (if everything is running to plan, which it rarely is) journey is a veritable conveyor belt of eye candy, with bountiful nature exploding on both sides of the track. More than 400 bridges are traversed along the way, before the train finally trundles into the Serbian capital. The journey over the celebrated Belgrade to Bar railway is one of Europe's most spectacular train rides.
