Visit Lake Pelham Boat Rentals. Very affordable rental fees on canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and paddle boats. The lake is lovely! Located beside the Old Country Store, which has a deli counter and hand-dipped ice cream. A great afternoon outing.

Just a few miles down the road! One of the best waterfall hikes in Shenandoah National Park. It's an out-and-back hike with moderate terrain. Although this hike can be steep in sections, the trail is well maintained and OK for small children. There is a great swimming hole once you get to the falls. It can be very busy in the peak seasons of spring and fall; get there early for a parking space!

Although this hike can be steep in sections, the trail is well maintained and OK for small children. There is a great swimming hole once you get to the falls. If you take the loop clockwise, there is a "false summit" that provides great views and is a good stopping-place for families or less experienced hikers.

Rapidan Camp, aka Camp Hoover, was built by U.S. President Herbert Hoover and his wife Lou Henry Hoover, and served as their rustic retreat throughout Hoover's administration from 1929 to 1933. The first family's residential cabin was known as the "Brown House" in contrast to their more famous residence, the White House. It is the predecessor to the current presidential retreat, Camp David.
The camp is accessible from Skyline Drive, as well as from Quaker Run Road. Please note: the road is unpaved and quite rough. Vehicles are prohibited beyond a fire gate at the park boundary one mile from camp, with limited parking. Visitors must reach the camp on foot.
Shenandoah National Park offers a 2.5 hour ranger-guided tour of Hoover Camp late spring through fall. Reservations are required and can be made online at www.recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777.
The Brown House has been historically refurnished to its 1929 appearance. An exhibit located in the historic Prime Minister's Cabin offers visitors insight into the Hoovers' lives and their time at Rapidan Camp, as well as Herbert C. Hoover's Depression-Era presidency.
