The restaurant with the best view in Bournemouth, and also showcases the best of the re-invention of the town as something other than an old people's retirement area. Urban beach is fashionable, busy, fun, relaxed, lovely sustainably resourced food, warm in winter, cool in summer. When we used to eat out - before we had kids obviously - we used to go here a lot.

Urban Reef - Seafront Restaurant in Bournemouth

Shopping
We're a mile away from Southbourne Grove (everyone calls it the high street). It's a lovely local shopping street with all the you could need in local services, plus a great and expanding range of lounge bars, restaurants, cafes, beachy-arty shops etc... It's very easy to pass a happy afternoon here, and the clifftop here is also beautiful with a wide grassed area that stretches right the way to Boscombe, great views, cafes, children's play areas etc...

Southbourne Grove
Southbourne GroveWe're a mile away from Southbourne Grove (everyone calls it the high street). It's a lovely local shopping street with all the you could need in local services, plus a great and expanding range of lounge bars, restaurants, cafes, beachy-arty shops etc... It's very easy to pass a happy afternoon here, and the clifftop here is also beautiful with a wide grassed area that stretches right the way to Boscombe, great views, cafes, children's play areas etc...
Everything Else
Although Southbourne is in Bournemouth, we're much closer to Christchurch town centre than Bournemouth town centre, and it's an older, friendlier place to visit. In many ways more interesting too. Head into Christchurch for its quay, kids water park, the river walks, the Priory. (Head to Bournemouth for the bigger shops though).

Sightseeing
The traffic to the Purbecks can be bad, but if you leave early, you can usually beat it. Also, avoid using the car ferry at Sandbanks (drive around the harbour) unless you go by bike (in which case you can zoom past the queuing cars!). Kimmeridge itself is incredible for snorkeling or paddleboarding, with crystal clear water and fossils in the rocks.
