Food Scene

This is a hidden gem for poutine. One of the best in the city. If you haven't had a standard poutine, do not go to the fancy places and say you've had poutine. Here you get a great basic poutine.

Though the poutine is (good but) not as great as at AA, here is a working-class-neighbourhood standard where you get what the locals get, and what the locals get is SPRUCE BEER. Do NOT miss this. They have takeaway bottles with a $2 deposit. NOT a late-night place. This is a daytime diner.

They had a more intimate location nearer to me, but they got pushed out by Vin Papillon - another nice restaurant. Their new location is bigger, but they've managed to retain some of the ambiance.

Drinks & Nightlife

I'd heard of this place for a long time, and when I finally got to go, I was coming back fresh from a campfire in a distant park, smokey scent and all. I was anxious that we'd be declined due to the dress code, but the bouncer (there is always a lineup) was friendly and told us we were welcome as we were. The drinks we had were a real treat and it was an inspiring place to be.

Not exactly a brewery. It's a pub. It's got a great collection of spirits, and they have the local beer Bierbrier. English and English-inspired food and a great atmosphere - basically I try not to go here very often because I never want it to become 'the corner bar' or too pedestrian, when it's really within 300 m of home. On football or other championship days, they'll open the screens for people to watch the games, but they decidedly are NOT a sports bar where the screens are tuned 24/7 to something that distracts you from your friends and the people around you.

Parks & Nature

DO NOT STROLL ON THE BIKE LANE (or on XC ski tracks in winter!) PEOPLE. I don't care if it's "shared," it was for bikes first - and runners and cyclists have learned to share it mostly amicably. There're walking paths and grass for everyone else to enjoy, and you can spread a blanket and picnic the day away. There are drop-in yoga classes and historic monuments. You can even go birding in some parts, especially as you get out to the river, or to the Old Port. This place is good for FRESH AIR.

Getting Around

This is where you can take the 747 to and from the airport, with the purchase of a Day Pass that's good for 24 hours.

Arts & Culture

Life in the previous century in Point St. Charles. If you're with the kids or like sport activities, make sure to also visit the big suburban park right at the end of this neighbourhood's streets. 20 years of living in Montreal, and I only found out about this last year.
