Great views of May River and Marsh. Go walk out on the pier we have seen many Dolphins. Check out the numerous quirky rock art on bank next to board walk. Great place to sit on bench and enjoy the Low Country.

In July of 1854, construction of the present building began. Architect E. B. White designed a structure described then as a “handsome cruciform Gothic building”, which indeed it remains today. Fanned arches with a look of palmettos top its mullioned windows that are framed by latticed shutters. The builders sent to England for the rose-colored glass in the windows. Inside, soft-pink scored plaster enhances the warm light. Exposed pine timbers evoke power and stability.
In 1863, Federal troops marched into Bluffton burning most of the town. Although the church was spared, its congregation fled.
In 1892, the roof was replaced, but the deadly hurricane of 1898 damaged it and the rest of the building. By February 1900, all was repaired. know our historic church on Calhoun Street. a scenic stop on many Lowcountry tours and that makes A scenic stop proud of its legacy reaching much deeper than its impressive facade. Just as plain pine boards grew into an extraordinary building, the Church continues to evolve from a simple country parish to serve a growing and changing community, locally, regionally and globally.

Always enjoy seeing the yachts anchored in the marina. Plenty of shopping, live music or climb to the top of the light house and see the inside story of the creation of the Lighthouse and some history of HHI. One of the only U S Coast Guard Museums in the country located within the Lighthouse, Flotilla 10-11 was the driving force to create this museum and place the replica of the 16 foot tall ship Eagle within.

Coming onto the Island, you will see a break in the bridge for Pickney Island National Wildlife Refuge. Run by the US Fish & Wildlife Service, this 4000 acre site has plenty biking and walking trails – all along the marsh and inter-coastal waterway. Pickney Island is a great area for photography, biking, birding and viewing beautiful flowers. There are no bathrooms, so be prepared and it’s pretty isolated, but beautiful! Also, no animals of any sort allowed. Open sunrise to sunset 7 days a week.
