Sightseeing

Start the day with a fresh fruit juice from Eat Your Heart Out on the corner of Fox and Kruger just downstairs, then wander over the road for a favourite South African breakfast of 'avo on toast' at Uncle Mervs (or one of their delicious pastries/muffins!). Don't worry the caffeine hit is coming! Walk to the end of Fox street for the best cappuccino in the Jo’burg at Maboneng Coffee inside Urban Fox and next to Bridge Books. Watch the hipsters roll in and out of Maboneng for a while or take your coffee over to the Collectors’ Treasury on Commissioner Street and spend a couple of hours browsing this 6 story 2nd hand book store with an eye-watering display of over 1 million books covering every topic you can think of (author’s personal no. 1 thing to see in the precinct). When you need a break from the piles of books, head out into the sunlight again (retrace your steps) for great Mexican at Mama Mexicana on Fox. In the afternoon take a stroll around the shops at Maverick Corner and the Cosmopolitan. Ladies might want to treat themselves to a (phenomenal) pedicure at TenFold after all that walking - now based on the rooftop of Hallmark House - worth it just for the views of the city! For your evening activity check out Pop Art theatre or the Bioscope. Pop Art has live performers which really are good quality. Sunday night is standup comedy - a good way to fast-track your understanding about the nuances of being South African in today’s socio-political climate. The Bioscope in Chalkboard cafe is a bespoke car-seat cinema showing great documentaries and independent films. Round off the daylight hours at Agog to take in their roof top views of Jozi and fabulous wine bar, gin and whisky cocktails. There is also a tapas restaurant there, and 2 floors of art gallery space if you want to complete your night. If you are still able to move after that meal then on the way back to the apartment you can hang out with other Jozi party people off at Love Revo open air bar (a converted shipping containers!)! A night cap on the balcony of the apartment or a soak in the giant copper bath is the perfect way to reflect on the day in this awesome Afropolitan city. Other recommendations: Food market on Sundays in Arts on Main from 9:30 till 14:00 has an amazing array of food stands. For the serious foodies: • Marabi club is phenomenal but need to book well in advance. • Urbanology is also exceptional food, located inside the Mad Giant brewery.
