These are the local places I take my dogs most often. The waterfall hike is moderately strenuous and best for big dogs. My dachshund usually skips that one. She loves to ride in her stroller on the Marcia Cloninger trail anytime at all though. They both love the forest in the Kings Mountain Parks and all the sights and smells at the US National Whitewater Center.
The Marcia H. Cloninger Rail-Trail is a peaceful paved walk through shady trees. It is also part of the Carolina Thread Trail and you can easily get from the house to town without crossing busy streets. Great for walking, jogging, biking and taking the dog out for a stroll. It's shaded over most of the spaces, but is paved with asphalt so a temperature check might be in order.

Take a moderate hike to a beautiful waterfall with an observation deck. Miles of hiking and biking trails to explore. Or just hike the waterfall and head back down. Close enough to do the hike in the morning and be back in town for lunch.

This place is a great day out with the doggies. They have live music throughout the summer. The whitewater rafting is entertaining to do, or to just watch. Bring one of the camp chairs in the entry way closet along for seating. There are hiking trails, dog water bowls, paid activities or just hang out for free. The restaurants here are also dog friendly. My pups love the place. Even the little can ride in her stroller or walk along paths when she wants to. Plus there are lots of other pooches. This is one of our favorite summer activities.

If you are a history buff there is a trail with the story of a Revolutionary War battle fought here. Just down the road is a living history farm circa 1880 or so. Dog friendly trails and paths wind throughout 3 adjoining parks (Crowders Mountain is the 3rd) that straddle 2 states. We just finished a 2 week camping stay at the Kings Mountain State Park and both dogs loved it there because they got to walk 4 times a day.

This is my favorite place to get a meal. It's quaint, local, the service is excellent and I have never had a bad meal there. Plus it's in walking distance from the house.

They have outside seating and I have seen dogs there with their people before. I have never taken mine there before. The place is a little loud and there's a lot of traffic going by for my mouthy little dachshund.

This place has outside seating and I know they are dog friendly. They are not usually open for dinner, but breakfast and lunch is seasonal, locally sourced meats and produce with a menu that changes to match what's available.

The tasting room offers 6 one ounce pours and you get to keep the glass for only $5. They make the wine on site and the atmosphere is awesome. This is a great deal, but they are only open during the day and I don't usually take my dogs there so you might want to call first. Their card is in the white book on the table.
