Food Scene

So here’s the deal. There are two Palacio Cafes in Santa Fe. They’re essentially serving food from the same recipes. But, at Palacio Café II, you have “el madre” whipping up all your New Mexican favorites – and more. They’re actually owned by the same family but the kids and mom split off to start Palacio Café II. This is, in our opinion (and my husband John is a total foodie – and the one writing our personal restaurant reviews), the best New Mexican food on the Plaza. And, it’s never crowded as they’re relatively new in a spot that had poor restaurants occupying this space previously. People are still learning this spot exists! Try the green chile (and order extra green chiles) chicken enc

This place is underrated which makes no sense because head chef Andy is a kitchen master. It’s a family owned eatery with mom handling some desserts (and running the front host stand), Dad baking up some spot-on bread, and Andy, who is a longtime Santa Fe chef, cooking literally EVERYTHING that patrons put away each night. Don’t pay too much attention to some of the negative review that complain of slow service in the dining room…because they are slow sometimes. Solution…go for Happy Hour from 4-6:30! If you’re sans children, sit at the bar, and revel at the fact the dishes you are eating are $4-$6. Must tries include the Grilled Tenderloin Beef Tips, Coconut Shrimp and the Rib Eye sliders.

At Sazon, I ate THE BEST pork chop of my life. After the first few bites, I sat pondering ways to make the experience last longer. I even glanced at my wife’s plate hoping I had incorrectly heard her order the shrimp enchilada and would find yet another one-of-a-kind chop. Nope –she ordered the shrimp. Chef Olea has been spoiling Santa Fe residents and visitors since the early 1990’s. His latest venture Sazon is everything you’d expect from a top-notch restaurant and world-class chef: unique, expensive, exclusive (tough to get a table here many times of the year) and AWESOME. The servers present a number of moles to sample prior to ordering and then inform you on the best dishes that match

Home to the ‘Miraculous Staircase’, the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe is a former Roman Catholic Church, now a privately owned museum and wedding chapel and one of the unique attractions in Santa Fe. Originally known as Our Lady of Light Chapel, the sanctuary was built for the Sisters of Loretto in 1872. Designed by French architect Antoine Mouly, the chapel design was based on the Sainte-Chappelle in Paris and in remarkable contrast to the regular adobe-style churches of the region.

Sightseeing

Leaving out of Alburqueque and have a few hours to kill before your flight? We commend taking the Turquoise trail back to the ABQ sunport. It takes about an extra hour to drive if you go straight thru to ABQ but you could spend hours along the trail exploring the small mining towns and shops and even a stop for lunch.
