Food Scene

I love this little fish restaurant. It serves the dish sizzling hot on a pan. It is a cosy and small restaurant. The prices are average as restaurants in Iceland are expensive. But note as I have mentioned before that in Iceland there is no accustom to tip. Messinn has also another restaurant (same name) in Grandi, which is a nice harbour area. There they have a fish buffet restaurant. Also a good one with better prices at lunchtime.

This is our local bakery and it is a very good one. People come from all over to visit this lovely little gem. They make great bread and all their pastry is worth the trip. You can have a seat inside as it is also a small café.

This is a landmark, a iconic hot dog stand in the center of Reykjavík. This is a must try and the hot dog stand Icelanders have loved since 1937 when it opened. This is also the cheapest meal you can get in Iceland (less then five USA dollars for a hot dog). Most Icelanders make a order for "eina með öllu nema hráum", one with everything except the raw onion. But be aware there is usually some queue. Bæjarins bestu got famous after Bill Clinton visited the hot dog stand on his way around Reykjavík in 2004. On the wall in Bæjarins bestu is a picture of Clinton with the famous hot dog.

Icelanders LOVE ice cream and we enjoy it all year around (at winter time we go to the ice cream parlor and enjoy the ice cream inside our car). There is a renowned Ice cream parlor, Skúbb just few minutes walk from my home. Skúbb was chosen to have the best ice cream in Iceland the second year in a row (Reykjavik Grapevine) for 2019. If you fancy a ice cream this is a place worth visiting.

Essentials

If you need some last minutes groceries then this small grocery store, Rangá is a ten minutes walk from home. The store has been in the same family since it opened 1931. You can get every essentials you need there. It is a bit more expensive then going to the supermarket but it is open from ten in the morning until eight at night. On the counter you can find Icelandic food traditions, like flatkökur (flatbread) which I recommend you try.

Parks & Nature

Paradísarlaut is a beautiful and magical place. If you are going to the country side and on this route I highly recommend you visit this gem. It is unspoiled nature with a picturesque waterfall and the surrounding is beautiful.

Getting Around

Stykkishólmur is a beautiful little fishing village only two hours from Reykjavík. Stykkishólmur is situated in the western part of Iceland, in the northern part of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Stykkishólmur has stunning views and beautiful old houses. It is like you are traveling back in time. I love visiting this quiet and beautiful place. P.s. If you want to go to a good restaurant while in Stykkishólmur I recommend Narfeyjarstofa.
