Perfect neighbourhood spot, on the corner of our street! Try the shakshuka at breakfast, or the tehina chocolate cookie at tea-time

Start with a strong coffee at CHACHOS, the uber cool coffee place at the top of Geula Street, closest to Allenby Street. Then cross over to Shroitzman for a sandwich (I particularly recommend their Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese on Sourdough = utterly delicious). Next door you'll find a few independent clothes shops to browse. Then, walk down the hill towards the beach and relax a little on the promenade or sand, while watching the beautiful people go by. The perfect Tel Aviv afternoon!

I'm recommending this humble, kosher food stand called MEKOR HABERACHA because the meat it sells is DELICIOUS - they call themselves the best in the market, and they really are. Try the Tel Aviv Mixed Grill in a pita bread (65 shekels) or beef kebab with salad and onions in pita for 40 shekels. It's not a glamourous place and it's more old Tel Aviv than gentrified trendy, but the food is yummy and eating here in the hart of the Carmel Market is super atmopsheric. Cash only. Sunday to Friday (not Saturdays).

Sometimes you just wanna get a slice of Pizza and watch the world go by. Enter Pizza Yoav on Shenkin Street. The pepperoni pizza here is the closest you can get in Tel Aviv to New York style pizza. Not cheap but super tasty.

Shopping

Experience the 1980s all over again when you step inside this badly designed Mall. But it does have everything you could ever need inside. Just expect to get lost, because you will.

If you want high-end fashions - TLV Fashion Mall is Israel's answer to American Malls or what you find in Dubai. All the designer brands are here, and it's also got an H&M, Castro, Zara and some affordable classics in case you need something you forgot for your holiday. A new mall with great wide walkways and also some nice places to eat.

Essentials

Buy all your groceries in the most iconic market in Israel. The produce on here is so tasty and fresh, you can't find anything that isn't delicious. Prices can be high - insidr tip is to walk down to the bottom of HaCarmel street and to explore the side streets too. There are bargains to be found, just check prices before you fill your shopping bags! Prices refer to the price per kilo.

Neighborhoods and places

Famous for it's spices, nuts, cafes and bars, Lewinsky is THE place to sit and eat, drink and shop. From cocktails at VIVIAN to GAZOZ at Cafe Levinsky, this street is an authentic taste of the middle-east. Don't be afraid to approach shop owners and ask them for black pepper, middle-eastern spices or whatever herbs you want for tea - prices are reasonable and the stuff tastes amazing. Also worth going for lunch or a glass of wine in the evening and soaking up the Tel Aviv vibes.

The old Yemenite quarter of Tel Aviv, known as "The Kerem", spills out of the Carmel market. It is rapidly gentrifying, but it still has heaps of cute bars, restaurants and some of the most interesting crumbling architecture you'll see. Head here on Friday afternoon to immerse in the magical atmosphere or on another day of the week for a quieter wander. Also a cool place to sit with a drink in the evening. Yom Tov Cafe is a good place to start, we also love the Tacos on Hashomer Street, the craft beers at Beer Bazaar and the Hummus at all the local Yemenite restaurants.

Once famous for its fabric shops, Nachalat Binyamin is rapidly becoming Tel Aviv's must-visit bar street. But it's not like the ones you've seen in Tenerife or the Costa Del Sol. New chic bars rub up alongside older dive bars on this newly pedestrianised street, which has SHPAGAT - an LGBTQ bar - at its centre. Not to be missed for an evening out.

Hip Florentine is full of cool coffee shops along Yedidya Frankel Street (we love Kiosko, Kiosko 2 and POC), plus tattoo studios, vegan supermarkets, yoga studios, pharmacies that sell weed - and all other such cool stuff. It's getting gentrified (true hipsters are in Shapira now), but it's still a real vibe. Chayim Vital street is packed with food and drink options too. Just don't go here if you don't like cigarette smoke or dogs - both are plentiful in Floretine.
