Food Scene
Great HAPPY HOUR! From 2:30 - 5ish. Monday -Friday. The point is, while the alcohol is only modestly discounted, select appetizers are about half off. That means you can get a pizza for about $6 or Giant Nachos for $7. Regularly they're $14. Can't vouch for authenticity of those items, but they're pretty good! (Especially for $7.) Also, it's YARDHOUSE. 100+ beers on tap. I want to live there.

Beer. It's fresh, local and always flowing. I really like their Lemongrass Pale. The best time to go to Kona is after you climb Koko head next door. After such a good exercise, a beer is a just reward. The food's good too.

Drinks & Nightlife
Good grinz, kinda weak (alcohol-wise, but otherwise tasty) drinks... definitely a pinky-up kind of place, but the reason to go here is for the sunset views. They also have a hula dancer & live Hawaiian music daily.

Sightseeing
It's one of the easiest hikes on the island. Very well paved. Gorgeous surround-vision of ocean all around. If you have binoculars: definitely bring. There be whales in the channel. (In the winter.) One potential caveat is: don't leave valuables visibly in the car, if you know what I mean.... Nothing is perfect in this life.

Essentials
"Donkey" is probably the closest real supermarket to Waikiki. It's heavily Japanese-influenced, so there are plenty of Asian foods there, but plenty of American selection too. Asahi is always on a good sale. Also, it's a good place to stock up on any local-Hawaiian-candy-souvenir type shopping. They are significantly more reasonable than anywhere in Waikiki.
