Athens is a wonderful city to explore and Kalithea is the ideal area to explore it from. Formal restaurants are not really the fashion. There are literally hundreds of eating places for an informal meal. These are the ones we recommend. At some of these we have managed to secure a discount for guests. Situated on the side of the river, this is a nice place for a meal and the surroundings are pleasant. There is also a children's play-ground nearby. The menu is vast and we have never had a bad meal there. In the summer months you would do best to visit at sunset and thereafter as it could be a little too hot during the day (unless you are prepared to sit inside).

Great food and good service. They have a variety of Greek dishes, as well as pasta, meat, etc. Ask about the "dishes of the day".
Enjoy a tasty meal before taking a ferry to one of the islands or when visiting Piraeus.
On Sundays this restaurant offers live music and atmosphere that takes one back in time. Well worth the experience!

Ask about their specials of the day and if you like it hot, try the τυροκαυτερή (pronounced "tirokafteri") - white cheese dip with red peppers (home-made). The house salad "Εσεις Κεμπάπ" (pronounced "esis kebab") was delicious and their "Σαλάτα Εζμε" (pronounced "ezme salad") looks good. This is a kebab place so you should try the kebab. We like the youghurt sauce as an accompaniment - called "γιαουρτλου" (pronounced "yiaoortloo")!
