My Shop & Cafe
My own shop and cafe is The Old Electric Shop, near the clocktower in Hay.
Open 10am-5pm seven days a week, we serve modern vegetarian food until 3pm, have excellent coffee and make cakes in-house every day, including vegan and gluten-free options. Much of what you see in the property comes from the shop, with new books and homewares, workwear, vintage clothes and furniture and gifts all available. Come and say hi!

Eating & Drinking
There are plenty of cafes and pubs in Hay, Kington and Brecon that you can find in the daytime, but in the evening it is harder to find high quality places. Here are a few that are usually really great, and well worth booking to ensure a table.
This one's main charm is that it is walking distance from The Deckhouse! A local's pub, with decent food and drinks. Check the opening hours as it's a little hit and miss in quieter times.

The Bull’s Head, Craswall, a restored and recently re-opened gastropub up in the hills - winding roads but worth the beautiful drive to find it! Combine the visit with a walk up the nearby Cat’s Back mountain.

This is our new favourite! A recently opened cafe and restaurant with a deck and glass walls overlooking the River Wye about four miles from Hay, great food and really friendly, not expensive. I recommend booking. They also do canoe hire here.
Stocking Up
There are large Co-ops in Hay and Kington, and a smaller one in Talgarth, and these are the nearest supermarkets. In Brecon there is Morrisons and Aldi, and in Hereford there is Waitrose, Tesco and Sainsbury's – all of these do delivery if you want to arrange for a food delivery while you're staying.
There is a great deli, greengrocer and butchers in Hay.
The nearest well-stocked supermarket. There is also a Co-op in Kington which isn't much further away.

Activities
So many in the area you'll be spoilt for choice.
For horseriding, you're lucky enough to be near to Bryngwyn Riding Centre, just up the road. I often ride out with Becky and her team, and my children have lessons there sometimes too. Rough and ready, often muddy, but lots of fun and very safe. They often run pony days during school holidays where kids can spend the whole day there playing, riding and learning.

For swimming, the nicest pool nearby is at Cloud 9 at the Burton Hotel in Kington. A very tranquil pool with jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and gym. Not one for kids to jump and splash – if you want that then the leisure centres in Hereford or Brecon will be great.
