Restaurants

Whether you are looking for a quick bite or a relaxing meal with drinks, check out some of my suggestions below.
This laid back New Mexican restaurant is super family friendly and good for groups. Their tacos are amazing, and if you're feeling adventurous try their Mojarra Frita (an entire wild tilapia fried to perfection) or their Cameron a la Diabla (spicy marinated shrimp).

Even if you aren't a big drinker, this is a really cool place to hang out at. It has a cool layout and both indoor and outdoor performance spaces. Check out their website to see events there.

Modern spins on nostalgic classics, craft cocktails and innovative desserts. They have a dining room, laid-back bar and two outdoor patios for uninterrupted mountain views, shared snacks, small plates, hearty mains, wine, craft spirits and local beers.

American and global cuisine, a fully-stocked bar and wine cellar, with live music and a value-priced menu in the piano bar. The bar features a daily happy hour from four until six with attractively-priced drinks and a special small plates menu in additional to the normal menu.

Great Mexican restaurant in Taos. Everything I've had has been delicious and the service is always friendly and speedy. While I find it weird having to pay for chips, salsa and guacamole (most places do free chips and salsa), this place has amazing guacamole, so it's worth it. But pro tip - order the nachos instead of the chips/salsa/guac. You get more bang for your buck I think.

Fun place for drinks (music at night). There's public parking behind; the small street to get back there is easy to miss and is just to the right of the Taos Inn as you're facing it.

Adventures

Activities abound in Taos
This is arguably one of NM's best ski resorts. And luckily you are staying right down the road. Go check it out, even if you don't ski.

This is definitely worth a visit once on your trip. It's like our very own Grand Canyon. But just hold to the railing as you look down to the river below. Incredible view.

Taos Pueblo is an ancient pueblo home to the Taos Native American tribe of Puebloan people. It truly is an incredible sight to see with it's amazing architecture and ancient history. It's considered one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the US.

Take a stroll down the tiny adobe lanes and buy some artwork from the many sculptors, artisans, weavers, jewelers, photographers, and other artists of Taos Village. Did someone say turquoise?!

If you saw the gorge from above, then this is the perfect place to visit it and the Rio Grande from below. It is an awesome roadside stop for fishing, enjoying nature, and even a little river dip (go find the natural hot springs nearby, but be careful climbing over the rocks). The road is dirt, but you don't need a 4x4 unless there has been some heavy rain or snow melt.
