Good place to go shopping and try out restaurants, if you don't want the hustle bustle of San Francisco. Walnut Creek is only about 15 minutes drive and there are free garage parking in the city, though weekend can get crowded as well.

If you want to go shopping for souvenir, you may find this outlet the place for shopping for less. It is located about 30 minutes drive from Orinda. Plenty of restaurants in Dublin area as well.
