Anciently a fortified garrison for Florentine troops after their war against Pisa in the XIV century it is today a nice little shadowed park right where you want it for families and kids as well. In summer time, at night, it holds an outdoor cinema.

Right after the French Revolution maybe the most (hard and) prestigious university of the country has been built the Scuola Normale Superiore. At night most of the university students of the city gather on its benches and stairs.
