Food scene

Restaurants in the Greensboro area.
Excellent, casual. I go here when I want a good meal, and always order spring roll appetizers. Similar to P.F. Changs, but local.

Print Works Bistro, employee-owned and located adjacent to Proximity Hotel, features classical and modern versions of French bistro dishes created with locally sourced food. There are more than 75 Wines by the Glass selections from our Wine Spectator Award of Excellence list and a craft cocktail list that changes with the seasons. Awesome burgers, sandwiches, salads, shakes, in basic, unpretentious surroundings. When you just want a great burger at reasonable prices, this is your destination. There are some outdoor picnic tables, seating inside is limited. It's an "order at the counter and take it with you" kind of place. 8 minutes south of the Pleasant Ridge Retreat on Battleground, at the Exxon station on the left . 3750-A Battleground Avenue

Oh my, this Peruvian/Italian food is amazing. Great staff, but be patient as with all restaurants these days, they are short handed. The filet mignon is melt in your mouth delicious, the chicken and barramundi fish are both winners.

Family owned, Southern/Cajun/Creole. Greensboro is home to VF Corporation, which owns many apparel brands including Wrangler Jeans (also headquartered here.) Additionally, Cone Mills makes denim fabric here. Thus, the reflection of the denim reference in the name. This has become a local favorite.

Sightseeing

Great place to spend the day learning about this Moravian community settled in 1766. Museum is interesting, but my favorite part is simple strolling through the village, a mix of history, authentic shops, and homes still lived in today. Don't miss the oatmeal raisin cookies at Winkler's Bakery, and there is dining and a coffee house, and several historic inns.

City/town information

If you loved the Andy Griffith show, you'll love the town Andy was born in. Wikipedia: Actor Andy Griffith was born in Mount Airy, and the town is believed[15] to have been the basis for Mayberry, the setting of the TV shows The Andy Griffith Show and Mayberry RFD.[16] The community holds an annual "Mayberry Days" celebration during the last weekend of September; 30,000 attended in 2009, and 50,000 attended for the show's 50th anniversary in 2010. The University of North Carolina at Greensboro estimates the town receives $5 million each year as a result. Surviving members of the cast, along with family members of other cast members, often visit. The 2012 event was slated to have Karen Knotts (Don's daughter) and George Lindsey Jr. (eponymous son of the actor who portrayed Goober). Several Ford Galaxie police cars, painted to resemble those used on the show, give rides to guests.[17] A barber shop has been named "Floyd's." The Andy Griffith Museum, founded in 2009 by Emmett Forrest, attracts 200 visitors a day.[18][19] The 2,500-square-feet museum, located half a mile from Griffith's childhood home, houses the world's largest collection of Andy Griffith memorabilia.[20]
